The female voice has always been a mystery. In the liner notes to the 3-CD Spinners box set, producer Thom Bell refuses to say who it is,but he hints that he has often speeded up the guys' voices in the studio

Damn, at first i thought it was Dionne Warwick, but after listening closer, i don`t think so. actually,I think it is Dionne Warwick too...with her voice slightly altered! Here's why I think it is her...Thom Bell says that it is a "female superstar" who didn't want to be credited on the song. The liner notes talk about the song "Then Came You",a Number One Spinners/Warwick duet from the previous year. When that song became a smash,Atlantic Records wanted the Spinners and Dionne to make a duets album but Dionne refused, saying she didn't want to become "a Spinners groupie" so,my theory is that, somehow,Thom Bell talked her into making guest vocals on just one track ("Games People Play"),but promised her that it would remain uncredited.

You may be on to something there, who other female superstars sounds like that, and who else would have wanted to be uncredited. The Spinners and Warwick were great together, the whole "then came you" album is amazing, and i kinda like the later duet, "I don`t need another love"

Really??? (Playing the song in my head)...hmmm...ok I need to listen to it. Either way I always loved that song. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
