Rapture appreciation thread

Now we`re in the year 2006, and it`s been 20 years since Anita Baker`s masterpiece album came out.
People still love this album, and personally, i think it`s one of the best albums from the decade.
Sweet love still remains my favorite Baker song, but EVERY song on that album is great.

My mother was a big Anita Baker fan when I was young and rebelling against all things parental. I was not hip to Anita or any "smooth"-type music. It was all boring and embarrassing to me. I bought her the "Rapture" cassette for her birthday and was horrified to find, when she popped it into the tape player, that I...actually liked it! shake But you know I wasn't letting her know that.

She came home one day and caught me listening to it, and laughed at my silly ass for months.

"Yooooou liiiiike mooooom musiiiiic!" hah! redface

that's a tough tough choice, now really... one of the few albums I wouldn't edit out ANY song.. everything on it is top notch material

ok, if I have to chose I take... Same Old Love I'd get lost in the phenomenal basswork from Freddy Washington for hours... highly addictive

from beginning to end 365 days of the year
I want the same old love
all I want to do is share my love with you
I want your same old love

great knowledge indeed, but he's more into uptempo. and he holds people like Whitney, Anita and others and the whole Quiet storm wave from that era responsible for taking away the funk

I'm sure he could explain it better, but probably he won't even click on this thread smile

I can almost hear it just by looking at the lyric, it`s a wonderful song. You`re right when you say it`s difficult to choose, every Anita song is good. When i put on a Anita Baker album, i can listen to it all the way through, i don`t need to skip ANY tracks, and there`s not many albums i can say that about.

I pre-ordered it on amazon, and counted the days till i got it (well, almost), but when i finally got it, i was a little dissapointed, it was a little too
jazzy for me, the two christmas songs recorded live from the 90s are so much better.
