The Black Eyed Peas' 4th single, Pump It will be released shortly. Its gonna be a huge single for them. It just may do for Monkey Business what Lets Get It Started did for Elephunk, blow the lid off of an already nicely selling record.

Mazerati said: thats how fucked up music is when Jamie Fox can have a #1 album He's basically Lindsey Lohan, only with good pr and more talent. Everyone loves Jamie Foxx...it probably won't last. The first single is barely tolerable (and I don't think it's a hit). BTW, the Mary J. album is actually kind of hard to find (not rare, just sold out) so I think if that wasn't an issue, her CD would have sold a lot better. I couldn't even find a copy at Wal-Mart and was lucky that Meijer had just gotten a bunch of copies in Monday (they had been sold out for probably a week). I got it for less than $9.99 and have been listening to it a little and really like it.

I agree...they are off way too often. Anyone have Billboard's numbers? Again, I think Jamie being number one and the numbers being that close might be explained by the fact that the Mary album was sold out in a lot of stores. I don't think the record company expected such a huge turn out (I certaintly didn't considering it was released so close to Christmas),

Supposedly MJB sold over 700K. I can't see Jamie beating that on his first album in over 10 years. He's talented but that album is and his ego is Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Blige's 'Breakthrough' Bows At No. 1 December 28, 2005, 11:15 AM ET Katie Hasty, N.Y. Despite slow overall sales throughout the holiday season, the week leading up to Christmas saw a retail burst led by a trio of R&B/hip-hop artists that shifted more than 1.75 million copies to lead The Billboard 200. With sales of 727,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, Mary J. Blige's "The Breakthrough" (Geffen) emerges as the No. 1 title on The Billboard 200, followed by Jamie Foxx's "Unpredictable" (J) and the late Notorious B.I.G.'s star-filled "Duets: The Final Chapter" (Bad Boy) to fill the chart's top three slots. At 33 million units, CD sales were up by a whopping 34% from the previous week and up 2% compared to the same week a year ago. At 602 million units, sales in 2005 lag behind 2004 by 10%. Featuring guest appearances by Jay-Z, Raphael Saadiq and featuring Bono, "The Breakthrough" is Blige's 11th title to appear on The Billboard 200 and marks her the third trip to the top. The set was preceded by the single "Be Without You," which is in the top 5 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and bows at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. A musician long before scoring as an actor, Foxx's return to music moved an impressive 598,000 to debut at No. 2. The "Ray" star began stirring the musical waters earlier this year as a featured performer on Kanye West's smash hit "Gold Digger." Foxx first cracked The Billboard 200 in 1994 with his debut album "Peep This" which peaked at No. 78. A boatload of guests -- including Eminem, Jay-Z, R. Kelly and Blige -- join the Notorious B.I.G. on "Duets" in the No. 3 position on the chart based on sales of 438,000 copies. The Bad Boy release comes nearly nine years after the rap icon's death. Eminem's "Curtain Call: The Hits (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) falls 1-4 this week despite a 33% increase to 430,000. "American Idol" star Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" drops 2-5, though sales jumped 48% to 401,000. In its 37th week on the chart, Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" (Island Def Jam) climbs 7-6 on a 52% sales increase to 290,000 units. From Billboard:
January 04, 2006, 11:40 AM ET Katie Hasty, N.Y. After debuting a week ago at No. 2, Jamie Foxx's "Unpredictable" rises to the top of The Billboard 200. The J Records set makes the upward move despite a 67% slip to sales of 200,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen Soundscan. "Unpredictable" is the first album since February 2005 to ascend to the top without having debuted at No. 1 when Ray Charles' "Genius Loves Company" (Hear Music/Concord) pulled off the feat. Foxx also becomes the fourth artist to have won an Academy Award for acting, ironically for his portrayal of Charles in "Ray," and achieved a No. 1 album. In typical post-holiday fashion, nearly every album on The Billboard 200 saw a decrease in sales in the final week of 2005. Overall sales dipped 50% compared to the previous week at 17 million units. Sales were up 5% compared to the same week in 2004, but the year's sales ended down 9% compared to the previous at 619 million units. As Foxx's album rises to the top of The Billboard 200, Mary J. Blige's "The Breakthrough" (Geffen) falls to No. 2 a week after debuting on top. Sales decreased by 74% at 193,000 copies. Eminem's Shady/Aftermath/Interscope retrospective "Curtain Call: The Hits" climbs 4-3 at 186,000 units (-57%), switching places with the Notorious B.I.G.'s "Duets: The Final Chapter" at 150,000 units (-66%). "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood's "Some Hearts" stays put at No. 5 with 135,000 (-66%), while the 20th volume in the BMG/Zomba/EMI/UME "NOW That's What I Call Music!" hits compilation series rises 7-6 with 104,000 units (-63%) and Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons" (Roadrunner) ascends 9-7 with 103,000 copies (-61%). Click to learn more... In its 38th week on the chart, Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" (Island Def Jam) falls 6-8 on a 65% drop in sales to 102,000 copies. Although the album ranked fourth in the context of Billboard's 2005 chart year, which ended in November, "Mimi" was the best seller within the calendar year, according to Nielsen SoundScan, moving slightly less than 4.97 million copies. Black Eyed Peas' "Monkey Business" re-enters the top tier with an 11-9 move based on sales of 98,000 copies (-56%), while Chris Brown finishes out the top 10 as his self-titled Jive album rises 12-10 with sales of 90,000 (-57%). A slow week for new releases translates into a slow week for debuts, with Ying Yang Twins' "U.S.A. Still United" (TVT) as The Billboard 200's top debut at No. 45, and the sole title to bow in the top half of the tally. The CD/DVD set features remixes and videos of some tracks from the duo's "U.S.A. (United State of Atlanta)," which re-enters the album chart at No. 176, and a handful of new songs.

It says you can buy a hit album. The title track feels like a decent R&B song but slightly ruined (not neccarily Jamie's flault but I don't think he's a great singer either). Again, the Mary album was very hard to find and sold probably more than the company expected and they didn't ship enough copies intailly. I think they got their act together. Does anyone have all the Billboard numbers, including the number of copies sold so far of each album...who used to post that? [Edited 1/4/06 21:29pm]
