Transcript of MJ "Emancipation" Speech

I just read this on another site. It's so bizarre, I had to share. My apologies if this is corn...

(Taken from MJNI Hot Shot, 20th June 2002)

We are pleased to present the OFFICIAL transcript of the speech Michael Jackson gave after attending TWO HOURS of live performances at the MJNI Killer Thriller party in London on 15th June.

The party - at the Equinox in Leicester Square - was organised by Gloria Haydock and MJ News International's dedicated team of Fan Club volunteers who worked solidly to pull off (in barely six weeks!) the most successful fan gathering ever held in the name of Michael Jackson.

Michael told MJNI after the show that he "greatly enjoyed it," and he and his entourage repeated this message to many of our team members and other fans throughout the remainder of his stay in London.

We are very honoured that he chose our show to make his groundbreaking speech, which we now reproduce in its entirety. (Special thanks to Matt Dodwell.)

"I want to thank all the great, incredible talents. [DJ plays "Speechless"]. As long as you play the music, I want to dance! I want to thank this guy for a wonderful performance [referring to Ernest Valentino]. I thought Bryton McClure was amazing, too. He's a great singer as well.

"Anyway, I first wanted to say, I really don't like to talk that much. I really don't. I prefer performing than talking.

"I really want you to know what I say. The tradition of great performers: from Sammy Davis Junior, James Brown, to Jackie Wilson, to Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly. The story is usually the same though. These guys worked really hard, and they're crabbed, for the story ends the same. They are usually broken, torn and usually just sad, because the companies take advantage of them, they really do.

"And being the artist that I am, at Sony I've generated several billion dollars for Sony, several billon. They really thought that my mind is always on music and dancing. It usually is, but they never thought that this performer - myself - would out think them.

"So, we can't let them get away with what they're trying to do, because now I'm a free agent. I just owe Sony one more album. It's just a box set, really, with two new songs which I've written ages ago. Because for every album that I record, I write - literally, I'm telling you the truth - I write at least 120 songs every album I do. So I can do the box set, just giving them any two songs.

"So I'm leaving Sony, a free agent, owning half of Sony. I own half of Sony's Publishing. I'm leaving them, and they're very angry at me, because I just did good business, you know.

"So the way they get revenge is to try and destroy my album. But I've always said, you know, art - good art - never dies. Thank you.

"And Tommy Mottola is a devil! I'm not supposed to say what I'm going to say right now, but I have let you know this. [Points to crowd.] Please don't videotape what I am going to say, ok? Turn it off, please. Do it, do it, I don't mind! Tape it!

"Mariah Carey, after divorcing Tommy, came to me crying. Crying. She was crying so badly I had to hold her. She said to me, 'This is an evil man, and Michael, this man follows me'. He taps her phones, and he's very, very evil. She doesn't trust him.

"We have to continue our drive until he is terminated. We can't allow him to do this to great artists, we just can't.

"I just wanted to let you know, I appreciate everything you've done, you've been amazing.

"You're so loyal! [Scanning the audience]. Diana, everybody, Waldo, all the people here! I love you all. You've been amazing, I love you!

"But still, but still, I promise you, the best is yet to come!"

i dont know but...damn, i actually went to the book store and bought a book...and have started reading it...NO!!! I must not increase my intellect...hehehehe

btw: The book is a collection of essays from Richard Rodriguez called "Brown: The Last Discovery of America". Interesting discussions on how America is becoming less and less black and white and more hispanic but more confused about what falls between black and white, straight and gay, right and wrong and everything in between...

Waldo was in the audience? You mean that "Where's Waldo" guy? Wow!

Yeah the whole thing is bizarre. He writes 120 songs for each album he makes?! What? 115 pieces of crap and perhaps 5 good ones?

And I know Mariah had problems..but I didn't realise they were THIS bad. She divorces her husband and she goes crying to MJ? MJ?!!! What was his advice to her?

"Oh Mariah..you know what you should do. Become a freaky weird recluse. Get a pet monkey and hang out with little kids. You'll feel ALL better"

Hey Mike..what you think we should do bout the Middle East crisis? Terrorism in American?

Tommy Mottola tried to ruin Mariah's career after she divorced him in 1998.He made sure that her music wasn't promoted properly, and he signed Jennifer Lopez, hoping to make her the next big Sony star.Tommy is at least partly responsible for Mariah's breakdown last year.

Michael leaves Sony in pretty good condition, imo. He owns his own master recordings plus 50% of the Sony catalog (which includes songs by The Beatles,Babyface,Sly and The Family Stone and others).Hopefully,he will weigh his options carefully so he's not in a situation like this again.

Mottola reportedly has ties to the Mafia...let's see if anyone ends up whacked...MJ should shut up before Macauly Culkin shows up dead, with a strategically placed bullet as a "message job." biggrin

I do a lotta lurkin' folks, but this one sort of grabbed me... I for one really wonder what happens in the so-called "Music Business" because so very many performers do end up broke and disgusted. It makes me think of old prize fighters when I see artists like Morris Day & The Time playing at bar mitzahs and crap.

I believe the most successful people in this business are the ones that are the most messed up. 'Cuz, both Prince and MJ are seriously kookoo (in a good way for the most part).

I wish them both heaven -- in their battles with "The Resistor" a/k/a as Tommy Mottola!
La, la, la

if you ever read some of MJ's speeches you would see a lot of them are really articulate, elaborate and almost poetic. Sometimes though his speeches are too dull but this ones pretty good.

Michael should have left Mariah out of that speech. Telling how others feel is not good PR because it makes you look ammature. Otherwise, I commend him for telling exactly how he feels and he will be leaving with a lot, so even if his singing career is done, he'll have the $$$.
