I don't know...with Kanye and JD, why are we trying to turn her into Mariah ca. 2005? I want to hear her with some hot dance producers. I hope the Swedish guys producer more than two tracks!

Even Madonna samples these days. Everyone samples. At least maybe some people will be turned on to the Jones Girls because of her. Sample/loop same difference. I don't want a classic r&b song messed up. If people want to get turned on to older music go buy an oldies complilation. And the way Janet's sampling has been handled in the past it's never subtle. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

However if the song is released as a single it will get played because 1) it's Janet Jackson and 2) it's using a sample of a classic r&B song. Which will make it almost unavoidable. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So I didn't know it was about a new release. One could assume ... but hey I'm killing time and it's a fairly short thread. I saw the news of her sampling a song I like and decided to join the thread. CalhounSq has STILL not heard "My Humps" (I only heard it when Yahoo played the video instead of Te Amo Corazon), so you can avoid this, too I am all for sampling because at least the track is going to have a damn melody. No one's going to bother writing original melody in the mainstream R&B/pop world, so I take what I can get. [Edited 1/2/06 16:20pm]

(And I do take pains to turn the station when that abomination comes on.) But that doesn't have anything do with my radio listenting habits. Sometimes you're some place where you don't have control over what station you're listening to. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Don't get me wrong, I do like many Janet Jackson songs and I am not one to value vocal acrobatics at all, but Janet Jackson most definitely is THE least competent female vocalists ever that have had a long-lasting career. However, the songs she sings do not require a large range and she chooses them wisely to accomodate her voice, which is a hell of a lot better tonally than the likes of Hilary Duff or Lindsay Lohan. There have always been (and will always be) far less competent female vocalists than Janet; if you don't think so, you need to listen to more mainstream pop & R&B from the last 20 years. I thought that she demonstrated a pretty good range. She doesn't have a powerful voice, per se, but she has a pleasing vocal quality. In a way, her voice is sort of a throw back to someone like Doris Day. Have you all ever seen that old classic movie "Love Me or Leave Me" with Doris Day and Jimmy Cagney(sp??)? Doris was playing singer Ruth Etting. I love that movie along with Pillow Talk!! lol lol lol Anyway, Doris' voice wasn't powerful, but it was very melodic... soothing. Ya know, I sort of think that Janet's facial features, structure resembles Doris Day... obviously Janet being the African American, much, much younger version. [Edited 1/3/06 7:16am]

[Edited 1/3/06 7:16am] Oh, Doris was a very powerful vocalist; she's just restrained on "Love Me Or Leave Me". I agree that both Doris & Janet have very unique, pleasant tones. Janet actually has a range of about 3 octaves (Eb3-E6), although she doesn't have a lot of power. She is technically a lyric mezzo-soprano, but she sings a lot in the soubrette range. Whitney Houston has a similar (3 and 1/8 octave) range, but her voice is a megaphone, so she gets the props. [Edited 1/3/06 7:29am]
