Michael Jackson Shifted 60,000 Units In The USA Over The Past 2 Weeks

As reported by hopespringseternal at MJJF

USA

SoundScan Information and commentary courtesy of JRKing. Thank you.

Sales For The Week Ending November 13th, 2005. Billboard Issue Date: November 26th, 2005.

*Note: This tally does not include sales for The Ultimate Collection (4 CD/1 DVD), single sales, certain music DVD titles (eg. The One, Dangerous: The Short Films, etc.), material recorded with The Jacksons, and Motown era solo and Jackson 5 albums. Weekly sales information for those titles is not available at this time.

Rank, Title, Sales This Week, Sales Last Week, +/- percentage

Michael Jackson - 14,391 units (Sales Estimate)

Notes: Big news this week as the Number Ones (DVD) finally receives an updated certification from the RIAA. Amidst a week where most lost sales, Invincible manages a notable percentage increase. And Number Ones will pass the 1 million mark next week.

1. Number Ones: 3,310 (-3%) (Cumulative sales: 999,730 units)
2. The Essential (2 CD): 2,700 (Cumulative sales: 87,000 units)
3. Number Ones (DVD/Video): 2,680 (-4%) (CERTIFIED 4X PLATINUM this week by the RIAA signifying shipment of 400,000 units to U.S. retail.) (Moves down 25-31 on the Billboard Comprehensive Music Videos Chart, Week 86)
4. Live In Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour (DVD/Video): 2000 (Sales Estimate) (Moves down 32-38 on the Billboard Comprehensive Music Videos Chart, Week 16)

13. Blood On The Dance Floor: 19 (+6%)

Plus the other superstars this week...

Madonna - 7,328 units

Notes: A decent pre-album-release week. Immaculate was sale-priced at several major outlets this week, so we'll see what kind of boost it gets. GHV2 should top 1K again next week. Ray of Light continues to be the top studio album. And look at Remixed & Revisited movin' on up.

Cher – 4,078 units

Notes: Very Best Of keeps chugging along, whil the Very BEst Of video gets a boost. I think I had the two Millennium albums mixed up for a while there- I've fixed those and listed the to-date totals.

Notes: The current album scanned 41,000 and change, raising its total to 3.753m or so. The re-release will push back into the top 10 next week (and possibly top 5). Some notable gains among the older albums this past week. I don't yet have info on the Merry Christmas DualDisc (unless its sales all of a sudden have been lumped with the original).

Because it's catalogue sales, not from the Billboard 200.

*edit* Oh, well I suppose The Essential shouldn't be there either then.

1. There's no need to make MJ appear #1 since he usually has the highest catalog sales out of all these artists (including Prince) each week anyway.

2. When I used to do the wrap up, I included The Emancipation Of Mimi in Mariah's totals but since I didn't do it this week (and don't plan on doing them anymore period), that's why they're not included.

3. I love how asq always tries to diminish the accomplishments of Prince's peers in order to try to somehow make him look better. Then again, since Prince has to give away CD's at his concerts in order to go platinum, I can see the reason for the inferiority complex.

lol

1) did you miss my initial request?

2) lets not turn this personal. the fact of the matter is this list is incorrect. by including one recent album and not the other whomever created this was misleading. period. we move on. we grow.

3) see comment 1 again.

well i always put the numbers in prespective.

well musicology went platinum in retail sales alone

Look at madonnas latest album it will get a markettin budget of 20million
and i bet it cost atleast 10million to make

so total cost of everytthin is at the very least $30mil

just to break even u need to sell 5million albums

do the math and see why prince still is relevant

invincible cost $51 million

i think the money and hype sells albums but not necessarily makes money
or represents the best musical output

lol...Madonna's new CD did NOT cost $10 million to make. Most of it was recorded in Stuart Price's apartment. And I don't know where you get the absurd idea that Warners is spending $20-30 million to promote it.MJ is the only artist who would demand a budget that high.

"just to break even you need to sell 5 million albums"

COADF will certainly do that.Even if it sells just one million in the States,it will easily sell more than 5 million outside America. You just don't like to see other artists achieve any degree of success.Admit it.You are constantly downplaying other artists's record sales.

'Musicology' was a hit album,no doubt, but let's not pretend that giving it away during concerts didn't aid in it's success lol

i read on the boston globe which put her marketin budget at 20mil

plus i heard ppl say in the UK there is an ad every 10mins aboue her album

no one can take away from the fact there r very few ppl who can market them sleves as madonna can do.

Most ppl think this album is just a rip off from klyie minogue.

madonna didnt get any advance on this album her last one still hasnt made the money back

similarly MJ made very little money on invicible

at the same time Prince made shit load of money from musicology

i dont think she can make an album on the cheap since she doesnt play a single instrument.

if it isnt 10mil then it should be atleast $5mil and $5mil isnt alot of money in the music industry

id have to somewhat agree with this...mj's albums are made from his home studio but they still cost him an arm and a leg....what the heck does he spend all that dough on?

1. Yes, I saw your initial request.

From hopespringseternal at MJJForum, as posted Nov. 9, 2005:

I asked a friend of mine about Prince's and Usher's catalogue sales from last week...Prince sold 6300 CD's including his last album and Usher sold only 1700 CD's. This was a one time deal so I won't be able to provide this kind of information weekly, okay.

2. The list is not incorrect. It's just incomplete since it didn't include sales of TEOM. However, Mariah's 41k for TEOM is included in the notes. Seeing as we're all big boys and girls, I think we can do the math.

3. lilgish - Remind me to slap you upside the head later.

4. asq - $51 million my ass.

And please don't try and makes excuses for the flop that was Musicology. The album couldn't even hold it's breathe in any territory outside the USA. And as mentioned before, the only reason for it's U.S. chart performance was because the CD was given away with a concert ticket - a policy that Billboard has thankfully modified so that no one can cheat like that again.

http://www.mtv.com/news/a...ince.jhtml

While Prince's initiative may seem like a good way to introduce fans of "Purple Rain," "1999" or "Diamonds and Pearls" to his new material, it may put unwanted multiple copies in the hands of his followers. For instance, if a married couple attended a show, they'd come home with two copies in hand. Should they attend multiple shows, even more copies would clutter their CD collection.
