True Blue

Is this album any good by Madge? I refuse to buy Confessions as i'm not into Euro crap disco but I like Madge's 80's stuff. Can someone tell me if this cd is good? I've always liked the title cut.

This one was so lackluster. The only good thing about it is the cover and the title song. Sure it had a few other hits like La Isla Bonita and Papa Dont Preach (which I don't understand why people cream over that song anyways),and Open Your Heart, but this one could be taken away form her catalogue and not ever be missed. Its an album of mostly filler imo. I can't believe she toured stadiums with this one and that they sold out for the most part.

The title track is horrid, it makes me ill.

otherwise the album is a nice listen, not overly prodcued, even though I don't love La Isla Bonita, it fits well in the album. Open Your Heart is one of my favorite videos. Like A Prayer is more essential then this one though,
But I like this one better.

True Blue is a decent offering. Six of the nine songs are great- "Live to Tell", "Open Your Heart", "Papa Don't Preach", "La Isla Bonita", "White Heat" and "Where's the Party". The title track is too saccharine for my taste and we shouldn't even discuss "Jimmy Jimmy" or "Love Makes the World Go Round". lol

Overall, it's a decent album and worth having.

Those exquisite strings combined with that beat? drool

Anyhoo, pick this one up. Despite my opinion that it's dated badly in spots and has a couple of embarrassing clunkers like "Like A Virgin", it's all-around better than that predecessor: "Open Your Heart", "PDP", and "Live To Tell" still hold up as great (if very '80s) pieces of pop, while the title track and "Material Girl" from "LAV" are just... disbelief.

I still think her debut and "Like A Prayer" are her greatest '80s efforts, though. "Madonna" is my personal favorite and my all-time favorite Madge album.

We disagree yet agree on one thing: that her self titled debut and LAP are her best 80's material.

Open your heart is the bomb. I like that song a lot. La Isla Bonita is ok, where's the party is kinda wack, live to tell is aiight. Don't know the other jams you menioned. So I guess most people think this album is wack??

You can make as many Captain Beefheart threads that you want and nobody should complain. I never undestand why people on message boards get irritated with seeing thread headers they are tired of. Just dont click them on or go ot another thread header. Or better yet, create your own. How can one attempt to disuade someone from making a thread about something they were thinking about or considering.Even if there are tons. So what? Go to another one. It isnt like th subject of concern is the only only thing there.

Not perosnally to you riphertoshreds, I dig u, but in general about compalints about threads.

And this isn't the same subject matter concerning Madonna. Same as MJ. They have a lot of material and many fans, so many subjects on them are bound to be brought up.

Yeah, I think it's a grown up Madonna which was refreshing at that time. Stronger material and musicianship then that tinny sound of her last two revious to LAP.

nod "LAP" itself has an '80s sound in areas but it's still her most musically rich, diverse, artistically accomplished album of that decade.

You should just get The Immaculate Collection if you're into her 80s material. It has the essential True Blue tracks anyways, though I love Where's the Party.

If you already have the Immaculate Collection, you probably wouldn't get much else out of this album.

Get Like A Virgin instead.

I always urge people to buy the albums instead of TIC because of the substandard remixes and Q-Sound bullshit on TIC.

Yeah, I hate those remixes on TIC too, but it does sum up her 1980's stardom near-perfectly, even though I'm still waiting for the "definitive" collection. As for the True Blue album, 90% of the material on that album sounds too dated and I think this was a burnout period for Madonna's skills as an artist, rather than a pop star. She was still popular, but I consider True Blue as a "cheaper, rushed, and nerve-wrecking version of Like A Virgin". There are some cuts I like on that album like Papa Don't Preach, Live To Tell, and La Isla Bonita.

But now you ultimately MUST grip True Blue!
