GQ were a brilliant funk/disco band!! Back in 1979,I went crazy over their debut album.Their sound is very breezy and synth-heavy,with lots of great basslines. My favorite songs by them:
"Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" (1979) "Make My Dream A Reality" (1979) "I Do Love You" (1979) "Standing Ovation" (1980) "Don't Stop This Feeling" (1980) "Sad Girl" (1981) "Shake" (1981) "GQ Down" (1980?) "Sitting In The Park" (1980) The slow jam "Don't Stop This Feeling" deserves much props. It's an album track that received alot of airplay without ever becoming a single.

I agree,"Don't Stop This Feeling" really should have been a single. It's their finest original slow jam (their other slow jams were remakes). "Shake" was their last hit single. It's from 1981,includes the catchy chorus.. shake..shake...love's gonna break...shake it from your shoulder let's all partake...shake it girl all over or something like that . I love this song. It's one of those "take someone home from the club at 4 a.m. and get lucky" songs. Andy is a four letter word.

Hey Angela,I saw GQ in concert a few years ago. They often appear at our annual "Super Oldies" R&B concerts.Actually,it's just the lead singer/guitarist.He performs "Disco Nights","Sitting In The Park" and "I Do Love You".I'm hoping that he is on the bill for our next Super Oldies show on February 11,2006.
Do you have shows like these in your area? I go every year and in the past,I have seen The Stylistics,Billy Paul,Barbara Mason,Peaches and Herb,The Delfonics,Blue Magic,The Originals,The Manhattans,Mary Jane Girls,Evelyn Champagne King,Gene Chandler,Deniece Williams,Tierra,Malo,War,The Floaters,The Superbs,James and Bobby Purify,The Dramatics,Zapp,The Gap Band,Rose Royce,Barbara Lewis,Al Wilson,and numerous others.Most people don't even realize that these people are still out there,performing and doing concerts!

No. the city Im from is rather small and hardly have any concerts. I would have to go to Cleveland to have oldies concerts. When I was in Mich I was shocked that they had a Parliment&Funkadelic concert. this was in 1996.Good concert too.

What a voice!!!! I think the drummer used to do all the vocals. Does anyone know his name? M MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! M Paul Service was the drummer for a bit. Don't know if he did the vocal or not. Be sure to check out the original I Do Love You and Sitting In The Park... ...by Billy Stewart. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 [Edited 12/16/05 15:49pm] "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. The drummer was singing. He kind of looked very Al-Jeareau. M MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop!
