Both songs, musically, are top notch when it comes to the production. Very well played. Both songs and Switch's image influenced P and MJ. Switch was big on the soft, damn near girlish image, especially Bobby DeBarge. The intro to "I Call Your Name" is legendary. The little touches like the keyboard melody while Bobby is talking is genius. If anybody ever wanted girls to melt from hearing a ballad, I think this was it. Waaay more so than P's weird ass end of the world speech on "Do Me, Baby", or Mike's "She's Out Of My Life". I can't pick one over the other, cuz "There'll Never Be" is bangin' too. When I was little, my mother and myself would be laughing so hard whenever this song would come on the radio in the car at Bobby's falsetto and I would be imitating him while I was laughing.
If anybody ever wanted girls to melt from hearing a ballad My Middle School dance when i learned to slooow dance and i call your name was one several slow songs played that night. The intro to "I Call Your Name" is legendary. The little touches like the keyboard melody while Bobby is talking is genius. the little simple things make this song for me, The Shit. like the high-hat, the shakers, the block, the horns, the synth are all placed well and no doubt the vocals. and There'll Never Be is great great great as well. " there is..no sub-sti-tute... fo' you, no one could taaake your place, your more than they can eeveer seee thats why i call your name"

well then pLEASE do! i'd love to read some more about these two songs and about switch in general. they were my all time fav group when i was growing up. i LOVE switch....bobby and tommy and eddie and phillip and gregg and...that's it right? lol i used to play their albums over and over and over and over again. bobby's voice is just so sweet to me and i thought that phillip's voice was always the perfect compliment to it. i loved when they were singing together and my favorite love songs in the world....as far as moving me and taking me back to the day would be a switch love song. between 'there'll never be' and 'i call your name'.....damn.....how do u choose? they are both tite. it's like inhaling lavender.....i wish i could just snort the whole bottle up my nose and be one with the lavender...it just smells so damn good! same with these two songs. i hear them and i just wanna melt into the song and float away into 'there'll never be 'land. i was very upset when i heard that bobby had died because even though i had lost track of them as i got older....i always remembered switch in my heart and couldn't wait for the day when i could listen to my albums again. (i don't have a wreka playa) Very well said and quite passionate too, I might add. It's good to see folks like u RudeGirl, who act like they're alive and have fond memories about specific music. When I was in college, one of my room-mates told me that El Debarge was the vocals. I never looked it up myself, & all these years I thought this was true. Til recently, an orger informed me that it wasn't. I always thought that ElBarge and Switch were one in the same too. They sound very much alike! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I love both songs equally. I Call Your Name is a great track and was a fav of mine for a while, but There'll Never Be has rapidly become my favorite of the two. Can't really go wrong with either song though.

i dig both cuts, but i love "i call your name" more for...you guessed it, the intro.
i used to think about immature things...y'know like, "do you love me? do you want me? are you gonna call me like you said you would? is this really your real phone number?" but'cha know...i'm a maaaaan now, baby, a grown man...and i've come a looooong way, heh...and 'spurrience taught me one thang...taught me to hold on to my love...

Oh man,,,,this thread caused a trip down memory lane that led to the iTunes purchase od BOTH the songs in question, not to mention 8 more that came to mind whle reliving the memories of DeBarge, Switch, Klymaxx, Shalamar, The Jets, Ready For the World. I had to shut down iTunes before I went overboard!
