I appreciate Will Smith's rap solely for the fact that he isn't cursing, calling women b's and objectifying women. It's relatively 'clean' music. It's fun and upbeat too. He's not the best rapper. And I'm a firm believer in if you're aren't the best, you shouldn't be doing it. But, I do appreciate the fact that he isn't being pressured to conform to the sterotypical rapper image and doesn't let violence and sex sell. But, yes, his music as of late has been pretty bad.

Something happened and Will isn't cool anymore. When he put out Jiggy With It and was in the first Men In Black he was on top. I see his career heading downhill, even though I liked Ali. He was Ok. He should stick to party music and not try to be hard edged like his new single. Jiggy and Miami were perfect for his image- squeeky clean but good samples and good dance floor hits. This new song will sink real fast. Bad move.

i agree with you...he doesn't seem as cool as he did in the past. people are saying he "sold out" and acts a little too pleased & full of himself for his own good. not that i agree with that though. i think he's silly, and not meant to be taken serious...

oh, and "summertime" was a cool song...smile

peace!

With Dubya setting the standard, no wonder Will thinks he can make it to the White House.

I like Will Smith. He's far from being an egotist.

Normally good role models r labelled "egotists"...so 2 me, u can call him an egotist but it really means nothing.

Jay-Z---THERES an egotist.

Will Smith is what Michael Jackson used to be...a Black artist with mass appeal who appeals to young children as well as adults. His music is non-threatening, profanity-free,and he does "family films".I like the fact that he doesn't have that silly, tired "thug image" that every other rapper has these days. He's proving that you can be popular without having to resort to negativity and cussing.

But let's be real...music isn't really his priority these days. He's had so much success as an actor, that's his main gig.

Prince wishes he had half of the acting talent of Will Smith. Prince is nothing but a one-trick pony on the big screen - solely capable of playing fruity, self-obsessed artsy types. Could Prince have played Ali? A special government agent? Any of Will Smith's roles? No. Could Will Smith have played a black musician like Prince? He did for years on prime time tv.

Smith is harmless, successful, & has managed to cross over in ways Prince never could nor will.

The huge difference was that Michael and his music used to never be completely bland, BORING, and Pat Boone-ish.

To some of us Smith couldn't play Ali either.

Uh, no. He played a rapper on prime time tv, not a musician.

Yeah, but I can't watch that LEGEND OF A BAGGER VANCE crap. The concept of a black man moving that freely in and out of white America IN THE 30s looks too much like a DISNEY movie. I didn't dig MIB, but I know the kids wanna go see MIIB.

Actually, he played a ghetto kid in a rich uncle's house going 2 a rich kid's school. Same "fish outta water" premise as "Diff'rent Strokes".

...but with a cooler musical intro. biggrin

Yeah, I know. But if I remember correctly (which I may not) I seem to remember him rapping in at least one episode. Of course that doesn't mean he played a rapper. I liked that series during its early years.

I don't care 4 him anymore but you know like yamomma said kids love him. Both o' my daughter & son are hopelessly in love wit him and they'd kill their momma if they saw her typing shit about the brotha.

But LOL like I said I don't care 4 him anymore, he used to be so humble and down 2 earth but now?? Tsk tsk, he went louzy and egotistic from 'Wild wide west' counting. But I love the fresh prince and 'Made in America'. But I DAMN MY SELF 4 watching that name-less shit(I won't call it 'ALI' cuz ol' brotha man deserved MUCH RESPECT than that tired ass movie)

Oh and is it true that he became MUSLIM and changed his name into 'Mohammed Ali'???

lol Yeah, I hear ya PFunk. I never saw Bagger Vance, I figured I wouldn't like it. Seemed to me that it was all about white Hollywood doing its shtick of glamorizing the role of the "minority": as the loyal, wise, funny sidekick rolleyes. Sort of "house n---r"ish...

Now BAMBOOZLED was a damned good movie! Whadidya think of that movie, PFunk?

I just can't sit down and watch that movie. Spike's stroytelling style is somewhat less than riveting. Kinda makes me want to flee the theater screaming!

My favorite scene, though, is probably with Jada Pinkett Smith's on-screen brother and his gang doing that whole "you know what I'm sayin'" thing.

OK.
WHAT ABOUT HIS NEW SONG? ENOUGH ALREADY WITH HIS IMAGE,ETC. LETS TALK ABOUT HIS NEW MUSIC AND SONG.

his new video is on the t.v. all the time. within one or 2 horus, i must have seen it like 5 times. the video seems expensive and is very good. but the song, however seems ok to stupid. his new song could be better though.

i like will smith. he is handsome and IS very successful in some many fields. all he needs now is his own record label and/or fashion line if he doesn't have one already. he has family qualities. his wife is beautiful and according to will, their relationship is past sex/sexuality. his son seems very energetic and happy and fun. his music is good, cathcy. since the vmas, he must put on good shows. his acting is good to excellent. he shows humor, hardwork, and a very good heart. will is great. lot of us should inspire to be like him or even the ever-genious p. diddy.

Will Smith has recorded music to be proud of in his time, even if it is all mainstream derivative stuff. His new one does sound abysmal on first listen, but these things have a habit of growing on me so I'll reserve judgment. Wild Wild West was absolutely awful though.

Eminem is like Parappa on crack, and "Ah've created a monstah!" is the best opening line from any rap song ever! (erm, possibly). It has ten times more class than that "Nod ya head" crap anyway.

Every rapper is an egoist, face it.
I like Will Smith, especially his old stuff with DJ Jazzy Jeff. And I think his first solo album was good. No he's not a "hardcore" rapper, but not everyone has to be.

And that "Nod Ya Head" is crap. It even tops "Willenium" on the barf factor.

Oye Vie!!! That think stinks...Is he trying to channel Eminems rap pattern? errr...

Actually this is nothing new. I heard the song yesterday and saw the video. This is in the same style of his "Boom Boom Shake Shake The Room" song that he did in 93/94 off of the "Code Red" album

I agree, whenever summer swings by or I feel the summer vibe coming in the spring, I play this song. He described the whole vibe, everything that goes on and how we all feel (especially in the City)...except now he can say, 'the temperature is about a hundred and two'...

The song is a classic! biggrin
