Michael - hes got everything when it comes to being an artist as well as an entertainer, where i think janets more of just an entertainer

Michael - Janet could never dance like michael, she hasnt got the same natural ability or range like he has, shes too trained

Michael - obviously michael, he writes and composes songs by himself

tie - although michael is more original, but janets are just as good

Michael. Even with his non-spontaneity on stage, he still craps all over Janet as a dancer and always did. I'd still give Janet her props, though, seeing as how the choreography in her videos are every bit as impressive and it DOES take talent to perform moves that complex.



Michael. Like someone else said, he can write and compose quality material on his own, whereas Janet has always had help from other songwriter-producers (for my money, she probably didn't even write "Black Cat" all by herself ).



JANET. Yes, Michael is the bigger pioneer, and his videos (for me, anyway) up to most of the "Bad" era are still classics, but like another poster in the "Michael vs. Janet" thread I myself started a long time ago, Janet's videos are highly artistic and will never date. She didn't need to spend millions of dollars on overblown special effects and displays of ego to make a great video.



No contest: Michael, if just for how flawless, natural, and powerful his voice was pre-1987.



Well, "All For You" and "Damita Jo" suck, but all of the Jam & Lewis outings before that are great. I'll take those over Michael's overproduced "Bad", "Dangerous", "HIStory", and "Invincible", in addition to "BOTDF", any day, even if I probably like "Off The Wall", "Thriller", and all the Jackson 5/Jacksons records better than anything else either one ever did.



Well, Michael's are the far bigger staples of music history, but post-"Thriller", many of them aren't even any good to me, so.. Janet's.



I assume Michael has more prowess on instruments, plus he's got those melodic and rhythmic gifts Janet probably doesn't possess.

They've both had a habit of doing the same old shit on-stage throughout most of their career, but what the heck: Michael.


EDIT: Oh, and acting? Janet, by far. Michael COULD be just as good, actually, if he weren't so stiff and awkward (I'd say "Ghosts" was the closest he came to conquering these flaws).

Don't get me wrong, I love Janet and "Control" and "Rhythm Nation" are 2 of my favorite albums, but she ain't got shit on Michael.

MJ---At his artistic height there's no contest...

MJ--But!!!!!It depends on which era you are talking about...if its from 78 to 85, then MJ wins...But from Rhythm Nation on Janet has been kicking his ass; I still give the nod to MJ because at his dancing prime he was more superior than J.J.

3. Better songwriter?
MJ---But this has to be clarified; MJ did more writing on his own (He wrote a few songs on Off The Wall and three to four of the bigger tracks on Thriller); But I almost want to take his name out of it because of some of the awful songs he wrote for the Bad album...And for most of his career he has relied on outside producers and writers (hence his inability to come up with material within a reasonable five year period)

MJ---Landslide

5. Better singer?
MJ--Landslide again...The thing with Mike is that when his voice is on it's just angelic...His vocal performance on "Human Nature" is just plain sick...

6. Better albums?
JANET---Okay, she only gets the nod because she was much more busier and consistent than her big brother....

7. Better singles?
Janet---The singles off of Off The Wall and Thriller kicks Janet's ass; But after that Janet is a lot more consistent and at times funkier (Although, "Remember The Time" and "Stranger In Moscow" is better than anything Janet put out in the '90s); But Janet still wins by a nose...

8. Better musicianship?
MJ--By default...The man is not a musician in the traditional sense...But he has a great sense of melody which counts...But let's not go crazy here...MJ ain't exactly Tito (the irony is just funny) when it comes to instrumental prowess...

9. Better producer?
MJ--Again, by default...Like Janet he wouldn't know his way around a studio by himself...

10. Better entertainer?
MJ--All the way...When he was really on the man was a genuis on stage...

2. Better dancer? Michael, if only for his impact on dance. If anything, Janet's been a better dancer in recent years than Michael(whom does the same shit over and over again)

Michael. When Michael does write a song himself, it's fucking brilliant. Janet's always needed the help of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis

Tie. Both have amazing videos

Michael. Though Janet's voice is passable, she has nothing on Michael in that area.

Janet. Much of Michael's albums are inconsistant and overproduced. Plus, Janet made The Velvet Rope, which shits on 60% of Michaels stuff

Tie, though Janet has been a bit more consistant

Michael, from a technical standpoint

Good one...Michael, if only because the few stuff he has produced have been good(Stranger in Moscow, Give in To Me)

lets face it, since about 95 there's no contest who's been more consistent, interesting, innovative, or out there on the scene (not to mention popular with the kids). JANET. her first week sales of DJ (385k) and AFY (605k) kick Michael's first weeks in the ASS.

I still can't decide who i like more. it's like do i like my right hand or left foot better.

The fact that Janet can't sing and when she dances she has this weird stern look on her face like she's concentrating so hard she'll DIE if she puts a step wrong, I can't really enjoy watching her anymore.
