Are you buying it? I was tempted but I want to get it cheap and nobody has it on sale...if Media Play prehaps got it in before the announcement, I could get a decent disount there...since they are going out of business! Madonna didn't slip much, despite the fact that the single is loosing ground on the charts. I don't think the album has much to prove...it will definately sell over a million...it's just if it's a success, that might send a message to Madonna. More of this, please!

A LITTLE MORE PERSONAL (RAW) Not a great number considering the promotional push (and the fact that it has to better than her first), but asg figures where right, weren't they. While nearly everyone went up, the numbers that went down speak volumes. I've said this before and I'll say it again....Madonna is not a safe gift! Fans own the disc. Mariah, on the other hand, is. Last week's number one...Chris Brown sank to 18! That has to be the biggest leap as far as chart numbes ever (the sales sank 42%). Inxs took a big hit as did chart toppers like System of a Down and some rappers....not safe gifts. I think Madonna will see a boose once Christmas is over and things get back to normal...and the new single comes out.

Yeah, this album is not doing that hot. I know her fams have convinced themselves otherwise, but it's following the same sales trajectory as Damita Jo, which had an airplay moratorium and no MTV exposure to deal with. I'm sure sales will pick up with Christmas, but I don't think Sorry will reverse the state of things. Internationally, it's doing fantastic, though. The US market is just not receptive to this sort of music, I think.

I didn't buy it yet.I'm hoping that my girlfriend buys it for me as a Christmas gift.I've left many "hints" that I really, really, really want it,lol. So,how is it? Some fans are disappointed, saying it's a rip-off.I'm mad that she only one includes one bonus track.Granted,it's a very good bonus track, but still...

Considering that most people believe the Mariah rerelease, which includes 4 bonus tracks (one of which is a hit) and a DVD, is a blatant cash grab, I'm not surprised.

I don't think America is Madonna's main market anymore and she knows it.That's why she is focusing her promotional efforts on places like Japan. In any case, the album has already sold over 750,000 copies in America. It'll be platinum by the end of the year. With the way things are today (with Clear Channel and hip-hop in control),it's remarkable that she is enjoying any success in America right now. Most of her 80s peers have faded away, commercially that is.

Perhaps. But I just don't think this album is meeting commercial expectations of either the fans or the label - in the US. Worldwide it's selling like hotcakes. I think in this case it has most to do with a difference in tastes (hip-hop, as you mentioned) - less so Clear Channel and MTV because she is actually getting exposure there. I do not like the record as a whole, but I am upset that "Get Together" will not have success in the US when, 20 years ago, it would have been a huge hit. It deserves it.

I agree,"Get Together" deserves to be a hit.But I'm not upset over this album's performance in America. This country is only interested in mostly crap anyway. How else can you explain the success of a song like "My Humps"? LOL. At least COADF is doing well outside America,so it's reaching it's audience.

By the way, I wish she had released the unmixed version on CD; I had to purchase it by iTunes (a first for me), and it is far, far superior to the CD version (which I have not purchased). What other songs do you like on the album? The next international single is a double A-side: Sorry/Get Together. Sorry will apparently be backed (at least in the UK, where it is being released on February 20th) by mixes of Get Together. The Scumfrog has already remixed GT! Other than GT, I basically only like "Jump", "Sorry" (although it gets annoying after a while) and "Push". This album was just not for me. [Edited 12/14/05 5:06am]

"Jump" is a great song.I'm pretty sure that will be the third single.I've argued on the Madonna forums that "Push" could easily be a big hit in America.Alot of fans aren't crazy about that song, but commercially,it can't fail (imo).

I like "Push" because it's different from most of the other stuff on the album - like a breath of fresh air. The album is way too homogenized in terms of its production.....songs just blend together. I know it was supposed to be a continuous mix, but Donna Summer could mix continuously without the songs losing their identity.

Yeah. It's selling around 100,000 this week. The album is basically selling on no promotion. All of the albums ahead of her have alot more promotion and Mariah has the Grammy nominations. With the release of the limited edition and the holiday season coming up her numbers should increase. "Sorry" will be released in January and I hope the rumor about her opening the Grammy Awards is true. That would help alot. I also hope she has some American promotion planned for January.

Um, no what promo has Enya, System of a Down, and Johnny Cash had? Everybody ahead of her except System of A Down gained not dropped. Yep,that 100k is good but not during a Holiday season. She should be doing better numbers than that. And, it just doesn't look good to have albums like BEP and Kelly Clarkson that have been out way longer selling more units.

[Edited 12/14/05 7:09am] Um, he didn't say it was a flop, nor did he mention its international performance. Here's what he said: "She should be doing better numbers [in the US] than that." And I agree with that - these numbers are below expectations, although it doesn't matter. Fans were ecstatic when she lost "only 30%" of her sales in her second week, but they neglected to look at the big picture - it was a week in which everyone was experiencing 30-100% gains. This is another week in which she's one of the few to lose ground. That tells you a lot about the album's reception in the US, I think. Without Christmas to prop it up, it would be having a very hard time. [Edited 12/14/05 7:57am]
