80s, best music decade of all time the eighties was the best music decade ever, everone was at their peak, Prince, Michael, Maddonna, Springsteen, beginning of rap, even big hair heavy metal headbanging was at its peak, all of this at once!, even music that I thought sucked back then sounds good to todays new music, apart from a few artists todays music sucks, anything thats good usually has some kind of eigties sample, I cannot believe some of the rap songs are actually on the radio, whispering rap? I cannot remember the last rap song that I liked, any comments?

i dont think the 2000's are that bad, well at least from 2000 - 2003. and there are a couple of songs here and there from 2004 and 2005 that are pretty good. my biggest problem with this decade is all the sampling. its like 70 per cent of songs these days has a sample of some kind, it really bugs me, shows what lack of creativity there is. id have to agree with cloudy and say 70's is probably the best, with the 80's following, then 90's and 60's tied. i always put 50's bottom of the list, but thats because i havent heard much from the decade, mainly just elvis and some rock n roll songs here and there.

80s best? Sorry, but FUCK NO!
Madonna for example might not be that bad, but even at her peak she ain't got nothing on Bowie, Stevie, James, Sly, The Beatles at their peak. So if she's one of your argument for the 80s, I cannot agree. I think the 80s sucked pretty much. Prince kinda saved that decade for me.

Oh hell yeah, 80's music rocked (and still does). Shoot, even rap music was better back in the 80's. Why is that? RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

My favorites are in this order:
1. 1980-1984 (practically everything, both fast and slow) 2. 1970s (especially the mid to late 1970s) 3. 1985-1989 (fast jams only, the slow songs from this era sucked) 4. 1990-1993 (house music and uptempo "Miami Bass" type rap only) 5. 1960s The majority of the 1990s and 2000s, they can keep because these years were a damn disgrace. Andy is a four letter word.

Please. Music being deemed the best at whatever time is all very very much subjective. You will be hard pressed to find anyone who feels music of a different era other then their own formative years being heralded as the best. . [Edited 12/10/05 9:28am]

Prince kinda saved that decade for me. i thought you were an mj fan? maybe i got the wrong guy I like his stuff, but mainly pre-1980 and Dangerous and some songs from History. Thriller of course is good as well, but it cannot save a whole decade. I haven't listened to Bad in ages. The main thing that distracts me from the 80s is the sound. Awful. And one of the worst things to happen to music was the drum machine, IMO. Of course, Prince and some others could work it, but generally, it just made (party/dance) music stiff and dull.

I couldn't pick a best decade. If I had to pick it would either be the 20's or the 60's or the 80's. Those 3 decades were periods of bountiful bursting at the seams music. I couldn't pick just one.

I love the 80s even I was a child then and still I remember the songs from the late eighties but later on in the 90s, I was exposed to the music from 1980-86.
The five top reason why I like the 80s 1. 1980-84 mostly funk and also fast r&b like Zapp & Roger, Rick James, Cameo, Evelyn Champaign, George Clinton, Gap Band, and much more. 2. 1980-86 Hey you can't know the 80s culture without know about early hip hop and electro music. I like artist and groups like Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC, JImmy Spicer, Afrika Bambataa, WHodini, and Roxanne Shante. 3. 1987-89 early sound of New Jack Swing like Guy and Teddy Riley, Levert's Just Coolin, Al B. Sure, Today, and more. 4. 1985-86 well a lot of slow and r&b songs were out like Atlantic Starr, Ready for the World, and finally 5. 1980-86? I know Morris Day and the time sang of didn't like New Wave, but well I do. And also I like other artists of the English Pop sound too. I like the 90s a lot but this topic isn't about it.

The 80's was the best decade, if no other reason than the variety of music that was offered. But IMO, the absolute best in Music came between 1975 and 1985. I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

It would be a tie with me as far as my favorite decade. I like 70s and 80 as far as R&B music.Particully r&b music from 1980 to 87 in r&b. Rap 85 to 89. every year in the 70s for r & b. The 1990s is okay. 2000 to now is here and there.
