Let's Dance! Is this album any good? I heard it's funky/new wave. People don't like this one in comparrison to Bowie's older stuff but I think I would like this one more.

it's a very good mainstream dance pop album with some big hits on it. if that's your cuppa tea, it's an excellent classic album to own. and of course it's bowie, so i'm not gonna tell you not to check it out!
'cat people', 'criminal world' and 'ricochet' are some good non-hit songs from the album...you know 'let's dance', 'china girl' and 'modern love'. the lesser songs aren't that bad either, so you can't go wrong with this one.

It's a pretty great 80's blockbuster pop album, but it isn't a great Bowie album, whatever that means.

LET'S DANCE was Bowie's calculated move towards the pop charts. That's why he hired the hottest producer of the day - NILE RODGERS - to help him do it. Apparently, Niles thought they were going to make a cool art record, like Bowie's Berlin trilogy. He was shocked when Bowie told him flat-out that he wanted to make a blockbuster pop album. He got it. The album was huge - his last big hit (in terms of the charts and sales). The first side is absolutely killer. The second side is OK. The production is a little dated, but the songs (on the first side, at least) still hold up, unbelievably so. Unfortunately, Bowie (according to friends that have worked with him) doesn't think much of it these days.

also, stevie ray vaughn plays guitar on 'let's dance'...he was supposed to tour with bowie, but they didn't exactly get along famously and stevie walked.

I ended up buying it last night and I really like it! It's funky and still artsy in my opinion. It's not like it sounds like Justin Timberlake . This is the kind of Bowie I like!

it last best bowie album of the 80's
I deleted the albums between this one and Black Tie White Noise from my hard drive!! Avoid the period between 1983'93 always! (Even Tin Machine!)

I love it. Shake It is like the most underrated song of his career imho. Its like his Positivity. If you just give it some attention you'd see how great it is.
