Once You Go Solo...?

Once a singer for a band (Or someone else from a band for that matter..) goes solo..can the person ever go back to the band they stepped away from and not look like they are backtracking? Thoughts?

sure. why not?

Belinda Carlisle (the Go~Go's) went solo. granted, they were pretty much at eachother's throats at the time. and obviously, she went on to a hugely successful career on her own. but the Go~Go's reunited for tours, a greatest hits anthology, and new album, more tours, and Belinda still released solo albums during. as a matter of fact each member persued solo ventures, though none as fruitful as Belinda's, yet they're still a group.

i think it looks like 'backtracking', as you put it, when someone (usually the lead singer) has a huge ego, goes out on their own, album flops, and then have a "reunion" with their former bandmates. *cough*DavidLeeRoth*cough* lol

then there are some where the lead singer was obviously made to go solo, and getting back with their band/group mates seems almost insulting when the hog the spotlight anyway *cough*Beyoncé*cough*. whistling

people like Robbie Williams, Michael Jackson, etc... could do reunion tours/albums with the members of their groups again. but we all know, people would be going to see the shows or buy the albums because of them. lol

Annie Lennox has done it much better.

Stevie is someone who had a really succesful solo career and bounced back and forth for years doing her stuff along with hooking up with Fleetwood Mac (she stuck with 1975 to the present, didn't she?). It seems like she is still going back and forth. They just (well, two years ago) released an album and did a tour. She just did a solo tour with Don Henley and is probably going to do a solo album soon. She recently did a dance verison of "Dreams" with Deep Dish. Very nice!

Well, with Annie and Eurthymetics, the breaks were long and the comebacks akward.

I think her transitions from Eurythmics to solo and back again a few times have been pretty seamless.

I don't always consider Eurythmics a "band" per se, but she definitely qualifies.
