"School Boy Crush" is OK but "Pick Up The Pieces" and "Cut The Cake" are my favorites. The Average White Band was a great group. They even had one of my favorite slow jams of the 1970s, "A Love Of Your Own". Andy is a four letter word.

Love this jam, an absolute classic. I also love the jam If I Ever Lose This Heaven & Cloudy . This post has been modified from its original thought. It has been formatted to fit into the space and run in the time allotted.

This is one of my all-time favorite jams, period. I first heard it when it came out during the home room period when I was in junior high school. I could not believe it was by a caucasian act. It is such slinky, soulful, nasty funk! To this day, it is one of the handful of jams I just never grow tired of. The bass and vocals are unreal and the jingle bells at the end cap it off. I have seen AWB a few times, but once in the early 1980s I saw them in a small club in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and my friend and I shouted at them all night: "School Boy Crush!!! School Boy Crush!!!" But the only thing that was crushed was our spirit when they did not play the song! Bastards. Reminds me of when I saw Earth, Wind & Fire (with the same friend) in the late 1970s and they did not play our main jam -- "Shining Star." We were pissed to the point of destroying the concert programs we had purchased. I always want to see bands playing new stuff, but there are certain classics you just have to play for the fans. But "School Boy Crush" is the shizit fer sho! Thanks for the thread!
Peace, Scott If you've got funk, you've got style.

You can't go wrong with the Average White Band. These guys have so many jams,it's absurd. In addition to "School Boy Crush",I also dig "Cut The Cake","Person To Person","Love Your Life","I'm The One","Soul Searching" and one of the most hypnotic slow jams of the 70s,the haunting "A Love Of Your Own". pulling out their Greatest Hits right now [Edited 12/12/05 5:55am]

One of the top funk tracks of all time!! I remember AWB doing this Live on Soul Train-- way back, when they actually used to let MFs plug in, sing, and play their instruments....
