Here I go again...

Michael Jackson's One Day In Your Life just came on. This song is sure melo-dramatic, esp to a ten year old boy that just lost his father, like I did the year this song was a huge hit in Holland.

Somehow I channeled all my sadness into this song and it is still capable of making me bawl like a child whenever I hear it, almost immediately when I hear the melody.

I have the same with The Beatles' Free As A Bird, a song I was drawn to after the death of my mother almost two years ago. The image of a bird freeing itself of earth's gravity is exactly how I experienced my mother's passing and therefor, also, a song that can make me cry immediately.

So what are your crying songs and why?

Sometimes It Snows In April makes me cry because its about death, and I associate it with all the people Ive lost. Zoom by the Commodores is a pretty random one, but Ive said this on the Org before, it was my Dads favourite song and he died 5 years ago. Its quite a depresssing song too!

Way Over Yonder by Carole King, because...I dunno, Ive always identified with the sentiment and when you want to be "way over yonder" and youre not its upsetting.

River by Joni Mitchell always got to me, and then I kinda pushed my ex away in much the same way, so it was just a bit too close to the bone!

There are probably tons more, but thats all youre getting for now!

Coincidentally, Purple Rain always stops me crying!

Here & now by Luther Vandross and End of the road by Boyz to men. Here & and Now is one of those touching love songs that would make you cry tears of joy.End of the Road reminded me of graduation in high school.This song was sung by the school choir in 93.

I never cry at songs, the nearest i come to it, is when i listen to "nobody but you" by Ruby Turner (originally by Gladys and the pips) and "desperado"

Latley by Stvie Wonder is a toucching song.

I think you can still cry at a beautiful melody, even if the song doesn't particularly associate with a memory. Well I can anyway..

China - Tori Amos. An ex was almost going to play this on piano, but stopped as she said she was going to cry if she did (as I had to go back to Scotland soon).
Hence, it is very poignant for me.

You're Ageing Well - Dar Williams. Said ex and I used to share alot of music together, and this is one I distinctly remember crying to as I was lying with her (both of us with earphones in!)...it holds connotations of imminent loss and of course who wants to get old, right?

The Downtown Lights - The Blue Nile. In between school and college I literally had no friends I could call as such, so this song embodied my loneliness as I stood on a ship where I had my first job and gazed out over the sea at the lights of Largs where we were moored. I wasn't even listening to the song, just playing it in my head and that was enough.

This Woman's Work/Under The Ivy - Kate Bush. Both of these get to me, listen and you'll agree their beauty alone is something to tear up over.

Aikea Guinea - Cocteau Twins. Doesn't even have any intelligible lyrics, it doesn't need any, the swell of the music is enough!

The Wing And The Wheel - Nanci Griffith. A really sad, winsome song. Simply a melody that gets to me, and it's just as sad live.

Left Me A Fool - Indigo Girls. A song about seeing someone walk out of your life, which I've had my fair share of.

Bright Eyes - Simon And Garfunkel was it?? The one about the rabbit in Watership Down. I mean, who couldn't lose it to that song??


Then there are lots of other really affecting songs, and I'd probably cry to them if you kicked me in the leg while they were playing. I'm just a sap, so sue me.

Many Bob Dylan songs make me cry. I can't even begin to name them all. His songs are so emotional and passionate. When he sings of lost love and such, that gets me everytime.

If You Dont Know Me by Now was a rather important song with my ex, so thats pretty hard to hear...

Landslide by Fleetwood Mac - Ive never really been sure why, but I know it makes me cry.

How Can You Mend A Broken Heart by Al Green is my all time favourite heartbreaker Its hellish if youre hurting!

Ok Im just posting songs that get to me now! I dont cry all the time honest!

Missing you by Diana Ross is a deep one too.

I think a list of songs that don't make me cry could be shorter Music and movies bring out a flood of emotions in me, and I react by crying not just to sadness but to extreme joy and beauty.

most memorably was Merman by Tori Amos when I saw her live, and she dedicated it to Matthew Shepherd.


Skyline Pigeon by Elton John

Why by Annie Lennox when she peformed it at Live 8. I was watching it on the AOL online broadcast with tears just rolling down my cheeks. Incredibly powerful.


When tomorrow comes by Eurythmics.. I don't know why, but that song really just touches me. Recently, i was listening to it in my room on my headphones and it just brought tears to my eyes. It made me think of my man.

I don't know why but music rarely does this to me. A book or article might, or a movie or live music together with the visuals, but not really a song.

Yes, newspaper articles do this to me. There are just too much depressing things happening.
