I've listened 2 all their albums (even 2 their Eps) and I don't get their sucess! They are poor man's U2...

I'm guessing there's a new Org rule that requires a weekly "Coldplay Are Shit!" thread. A rule I missed, obviously.

I like Coldplay far more than I like U2.

I have to agree. I like Coldplay, but there are any number of bands making similar music that are just as good, if not better. I have no idea why Coldplay has had so much success. But I guess essentially they are a stadium-rock band. Kinda like a modern version of REO Speedwagon, but a little artsier.

They are not in the same stratosphere as bands like U2 or Radiohead, in my opinion.

I like their music, and yeah they are probably overrated, but that can be said for most of the puffed up ones, or many artists that we like. Comparing them to U2 is like apples to kiwi or something, they don't have the same sound, so the comparisons musically are moot. Maybe comparing egos would be fun.

and of course english, otherwise gywneth paltrow would have never married the guy.

i like maybe 4-5 songs of theirs but they are mostly bland and samey.

I like some of COldplay's music but they DO sound a lot like U2. When "Clocks" came out, i was like, "Wow, U2's gotten really lazy!" Then someone told me it was Coldplay and I was like, "Wow, Coldplay sounds like what U2 would sound like if they got real lazy!" They're just so damned depressing to listen to.

Lots of bands and singers are overrated. Doesn't mean they are not good at what they do. On the other hand, I was appalled to see how the crowd reacted to Pharell and Gwen Stefani at the AMA's last night. They acted as though they were musical Gods, when in fact they are nothing but pop trash.

Look at Madonna, Mariah etc. Overrated, but with loads of loyal fans.

I went to a dEUS-concert some time ago. We even drove to Lille to see them. Gosh, that was a pretty uninspired, boring concert as well.

with prince on the other hand much better live than on record.

now dEUS, that's a special one. I like them on record, and also live, but their concerts tend to bring you down, their music is not quite uplifting.

Went to them in the AB and will go back in Vorst.

They were so unoriginal, playing everything like on the cd's, the main difference being Mauro having to replace Kamil and Tom bragging even more than in his interviews. I really didn't like it.

Coldplay epitomises ALL that is wrong in music these days.

Because they look slightly GEEKY and GRUNGY people class them as cool and obviously a real band not like the (I hate the expression) mass manufactured bands like Westlife, Blue, etc.

And okay they write there own stuff and they are a proper band..

..but does that make them good ???

It makes me laugh because people are beginning to speak out about COLDPLAY now but it's taken long enough or else they would not have reached their height of success.

To many in-the-know music people said they were good and for a long time people didn't question it.

I know a lot of people who at the time were really into them and have suddenly back tracked.

The band that really rocked the boat for me were The Thrills..

When they first came out a lot of my friends were like 'Wow they're really cool...'

But I think it was mainly because they referenced great bands like the Beachboys and the Beat writes as their inspiration.

I think the same with Coldplay. They have the right image and sound and say all the right thing in interviews etc..

I dunno... enough of me ranting...
