El's best work was with Debarge. And I think he sang on some of Switch's tracks too. But he just couldn't transform that into solo success. He's a very gifted singer. I just think that had he been given better material. He would've made that break through. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis would've been perfect for him. It's too bad they never got to work together.

el singin on switch songs is a common misconception, bein that him and his brother tommy have identical voices....

This album from 1992 has some strong cuts .
It was in the newjack/swingbeat-era , and has some good productions of Maurice White .
Newjack along with the tight EW&F horns , surprisingly swaying .

I have this CD.It contains a Prince-written track called "Tip O My Tongue".The first single "My Heart Belongs To You" is also very Prince-like.

I like "tip o my tongue" and a few others like the funky "fast lane" with kool mo dee.

"gemini" has its moments. "real love" and "after you" are great songs. The formulaic late 80's funk of "cross my heart" is fine too. I just wish it was longer mad

the albums on motown was an attempt at trying 2 reach the lionel richie crowd
the first wb album was waaaaay ahead of its time
the reason i say that is becuause it was 1992 and neo-soul was not acceptable
maxwell's classic debut was (imho) a tribute 2 marvin and leon ware's "i want you"
el did that in 1992 (check love me tonight on in the storm 4example)
his second album was a continuation..but wb pulled 1/2 of it and made him go get babyface
after that...i dont know what happened..i am assuming drugs
i have heard some things
and judging from those pics with bilal...i can draw my own conclusions
minor keys and drugs don't make a rollerskate jam

El has some nice vocals, "Love Me In A Special Way" is beautiful

My second fave song that he recorded.
("I Call Your Name" when he was with Switch is no. 1.)
