That's right. Everything was "party over here" and "party over there" and the dance floors were packed.

That reminds me, now that Thanksgiving's over, it's time for me to pull out Kurtis Blow's "Christmas Rappin'".

The rhythm is cool, and i like the fact that it`s not a song that`s angry. You don`t hear the "f-word" all the time, and it doesn`t try to provoke people, just to make people have a good time biggrin

It rare these days to have rap that is not violent or about sex.

It´s my least favorite rap track of all times..it´s the songs that separates true hiphoppers from the occasional rap listeners..shitty lyrics, shitty (stolen)music, shitty management, a travesty. Just a bunch of people put together by the infamous Sylvia Robinson. Only rap haters can seriously like this song.

No disrespect to those who like it, but your subcultural background is obviously more funk/disco oriented, which is cool, I love funk and 80´s RnB, but this song sucks ass...´

Being from the hip hop oldschool myself ( I kinda grew up up with it in the early eighties), I hate this song with a passion.

Where´s Cinister Cee when you need him ?

You know me very well. lol

When rap started slowing the tempo down and moving away from funk and disco, that's when I started hating it.

You're just picking out the commercial hit from SugarHill Records .
I've heard plenty of SugarHill artists that might be quite unfamiliar with hiphop-collectors . Besides rap , they released also much soul which was sung .
Their database of releases is huge ... so just one commercial hit can't put that into a shitty company . I know that Dj Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa were some of the pioneers in hiphop-sampling , even before " Rapper's Delight " ...
it just went that way with " Rapper's Delight " , and usually something that becomes a commercial succes will eventually be seen as shitty , because the overall public is accepting to eat it .
Less familiar stuff will not always get to that commercial surface ... 4 the better i think ... the underground-scene is where the it happens at first .

The far strongest point in " Rapper's Delight " is the intro : piano-loop with cow-bell ... the only part that i like .

I love the SugarHill Gang, Rappers Delight is alright, but Apache and 8th Wonder are my favorites.
It's true rap was fun back in the day and it was all about having a good time, thats why I don't care for today's rap.

I like Rapper's Delight and it is a fun and dancable song.

My favorite song by the group is "Sugar Hill Groove" because that song is funky as hell.

I also like rappers around that era who had that funk and disco influence in their rap like Jimmy Spicer who sang "Adventures of Super Rhymes", Sequence with "Funk You Up" and "Monster Jam" with Spoonie Gee, Gary Byrd "The Crown", and Afrika Bambaataa bfore they became "Planet Rock" they had a tight and funky song called "Zula Nation Throwdown" part 1 & 2 from their first album.

this song demonstrates that just because something is popular doesn't mean its the best.....

rapper's delight was aight...it was fun but not one of the best.

Sorta like liking Will Smith...nice little beat, easy to remember.....simple little tune smile

I did like Apache and 8th Wonder better...nod

Yeah, it really is a good song, a fun song nod I was suprised when i heard it, that i actually liked it, because i think rap music is shake, and i still do, but i guess KoolEaze is right, that only rap-haters like that song lol

The only rappers I really like:

The Sugar Hill Gang
The rapper from Milli Vanilli (Whomever the real rapper was)
Vanilla Ice stfu
The rapper from C&C Music Factory
Will Smith (His solo stuff and his stuff with DJ Jazzy Jeff)

I use to like Emimen but..I think once he took a shot at Michael Jackson, I gave up on him. It was awesome when he praised Michael. However, there are certain people you don't mock. Stevie Wonder. Michael Jackson. He knocked Michael and lost my interest after doing so. Besides that, his new songs all sound like atari beats. He is lammmmme. razz

Does this mean I hate rap?
