Olivia Newton John's $9,500 Lunch Bill

Just read this at the New York Post.

Outrageous!!!

http://www.nypost.com/gossip/31445.htm

OLIVIA Newton-John and British pop legend Sir Cliff Richard rang up a whopping $9,500 tab during an extravagant lunch at Nello on Monday afternoon. The duo dined with Lord and Lady Ashcroft at the pricey Madison Avenue eatery, nibbling down $500 Kobe beef with truffles, $350 worth of risotto and a $3,500 bottle of vino. The group capped off the three-hour meal with a hefty $1,400 tip. We hope dessert was on the house, especially since owner Nello Balan reportedly named his daughter Olivia in honor of the '70s songbird.

Her new album is pretty damn good, too...with a certain amount of profits being donated to breast cancer research.

It was her boyfriend, and former boyfriend at that - they'd recently broken up when he went missing.

Found this on Olivia's official site this evening -

Setting the record straight...

A widely-reported story in the press concerned Cliff Richards and Olivia Newton-John 'gorging' themselves in a New York restaurant and running up a bill of thousands of dollars. This is wildly inaccurate, and Cliff and Olivia are anxious to set the record straight.

The lunch was the result of an auction held last year at the Cliff Richard Tennis Foundation's annual gala evening at Hampton Court Palace. Cliff and Olivia kindly made themselves available to lunch with the highest bidder, who was eventually Lord Ashcroft, a friend of Cliff's and a long-time generous supporter of the Tennis Foundation. Lord Ashcroft bid £10,000 for the special occasion, all of which went towards financing Cliff's tennis initiative to primary school children. The lunch was eventually scheduled for when Cliff and Olivia were in New York together in November. Quite properly, the meal was a splendid one, with Lord and Lady Ashcroft as guests, and it was naturally Cliff who was responsible for paying the bill. Reports of the meal costing thousands of dollars are totally untrue. Cliff's final bill - including the tip - totalled $633.65 for four diners. Receipts are available should any member of the press wish to check.

what a shame they felt the need to respond to these comments. who cares what people spend their money on? its so crazy. if we all worried as much about ourselve as we do about others this world would be a much more peaceful and happy place.
