R.I.P. Chris Whitley

I don't know if this is done yet. I just read the news, I didn't know until now this musician has died.

I must say I don't know this man as a musician. I've heard his music once and decided to explore. But I guess he's one of these people who have to die before I start to pay interest and discover how gifted they are. sad

I do know his daughter, not really personally, but as a gifted singer here in Ghent. We've talked twice, years ago, and I'm pretty sure she doesn't remember me. But that's not important, I just wanted to send her some positive thoughts, in this way. It must be hard to lose your father at the age of 18.

So here are her words:

Words from Trixie Whitley:
My father took his last breath last night the 20th of November. I would like to make it clear that the people he needed and loved the most were with him while and when he left in peace. Those were Dan, Susann, my beloved mother Helene and me.

I would also like to ask you guys to understand there is a very fine line between Chris Whitley the legendary musician and Chris Whitley the Father, Brother, and Lover.

This was my Dad's favorite line from the first song I ever wrote, this is for you Daddy:

"Like the feather we blow away, in the thoughtlessness of words others say."

All faith and peace,
Trixie Whitley
