This time it's for real. Honest.

After months of speculation on their marital status, Newlywed duo Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey have come clean and announced they are breaking up.

"After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways," the couple says in a joint statement issued by their respective publicists, Meredith O'Sullivan and Rob Shooter.

"This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other. We hope that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."

There was no immediate word on whether a divorce was in the offing.

The news comes just one month after Us Weekly and Life & Style both featured cover stories on the purported breakup, amid denials from both Simpson and Lachey's reps and public declarations of fidelity.

"Yes, we're married, and we love each other," Simpson told OK! magazine in its Oct. 10 edition. When asked why she wasn't sporting her hefty engagement ring at the time of the interview, she replied, "I don't need diamonds on my finger to show that I love my husband.

But Simpson and Lachey continued to make the rounds ring- and spouse-free. He went to Tuesday night's American Music Awards solo and was conspicuously absent at sister-in-law Ashlee's 21st birthday party in Las Vegas in October.

Simpson, meanwhile, admitted to Teen People earlier this month that the intense media focus on her union had caused her to seek therapy.

The "With You" singer added that she is still with Lachey, though their relationship has been affected by the breakup rumors.

"You can't not be affected by it," Simpson told the magazine. "Communication between us is very important. Without it, the voices in the head start. It's hard to reflect upon [our relationship], but that's because the story's not done yet.

"Hopefully our story will continue for the rest of our lives, like what we vowed--through sickness and in health," she continued. "At the end of the day, you've gotta find happiness. I believe that we'll achieve it."

Sources have said the pair went their separate ways close to three months ago, despite statements to the contrary.

Lachey and Simpson's third wedding anniversary was Oct. 26. The couple wed in 2002, back in the days of mutual B-list status, when Simpson was categorized as a less famous version of Britney Spears and Lachey was one of the members of 98 Degrees, a boy band not nearly as hot as, say, 'N Sync or the Backstreet Boys.

After the couple tied the knot, they rocketed to fame virtually overnight on the success of their MTV reality show, Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, which chronicled the misadventures of their day-to-day lives.

Simpson, in particular, became a reality-TV darling, with her tendency to make embarrassing, yet endearing blunders, such as confusing Chicken of the Sea brand tuna for actual chicken and believing that buffalo wings were actually made of buffalo.

She enjoyed a sensational rise in record sales as a result of the show's success and landed a role as Daisy Duke in the Dukes of Hazzard movie, which enjoyed opening-weekend box-office sales of $30.7 million and has gone on to gross more than $90 million.

First-year sales of Simpson's cosmetic line, Dessert, are projected to hit $30 million.

While his wife enjoyed a meteoric rise in fame, Lachey's career failed to keep pace.

His first solo album, SoulO, tanked on the charts, selling just 105,000 copies, per Nielsen SoundScan, and ABC passed on a pilot he shot costarring Gina Gershon.

Though Lachey eventually landed a recurring role on the WB's Charmed and more recently a gig as a contributor on ESPN's College GameDay, fame-wise, he has lived largely in Simpson's shadow.

At one point, Simpson's father, Joe, was working with Lachey to change that image by developing a new MTV reality series featuring the former boy bander's struggles to sign with a record label. It's unclear whether that project is still underway.

Jessica Simpson is currently working on her fourth album, And the Band Plays On, which was expected to be released by Columbia Records late this year, but has instead been pushed back until spring 2006.

Speaking to Us Weekly at the AMAs Tuesday, Joe Simpson vowed his clan would soldier on.

"We are Simpsons," he declared. "We take a lickin' and keep on tickin'."

It's not completely that far out, though- Louis Vuitton at its' core legacy is a leather luxury goods maker that's specialized in travel accessories since the 1850's. It might seem a bit old fashioned, but there are many people who still invest in the old school travel trunks, valises, pet accessories (and in the last 15 years) body baby-carriers... and, when you make a fair amount of money, it's not that big of a deal to spend one to three thousand dollars on a piece that will pass through the years unscathed, and you can even pass along to a daughter or niece when you're done with it....

Everyone leads different lives with what is acceptable for them based on personal preferences. People should be allowed to decide for themselves what they deem a waste of their own private spending money without being so harshly judged, I would think...

Although I do understand where you're coming from, somewhat. Although I am a person that dosen't mind the investment in a good handbag or piece of luggage to carry me through the years, I have to admit I absolutely cannot understand the current American obsession with ostentatious "rims" (???) for the wheels of one's car (which depreciate by 50% once you left the lot where you purchased them, LOL)!

All in all, I think if a person has managed to keep a lucrative career for themselves, owns property and has equity, has a good back-upplan in case of financial windfalls, why not buy whatever you want? Now, if one is barely making it from paycheck to paycheck and has not a pot to p**s in, let alone a financially secure future, I could see the question in wasting money on "material" items like accessories and such, but otherwise, well, if you work and manage to have a little extra I simply don't see the harm in a LV carrier for your pooch....

i wouldn't say its sickening or even a waste; spending all that money on a dog carrier is just odd to me. i really don't have a problem with somebody doing whatever they want with their own money. shrug i just think its odd to have a designer bag to put your dog into, lol! i have lots of designer bags, sunglasses, shoes, clothes, etc but it seems natural to put ME into those items. i have to pause for a second when i see someone putting an animal in a burberry plaid sweater or louis vuitton bag. then i laugh and tell myself to stop worrying about another person's spending habits. lol

It's a shame about their marriage. I dunno. On one hand, it's kind of difficult to keep the media out of a couple's "marriage" when their claim to fame, outside of moderate success in music, is their marriage. But then again, it's sad when any couple decides to call it a day. The bottom line is that they could have been just regular people that couldn't make their marriage work, so maybe all the press prying or just living that Hollywood lifestyle wouldn't have made much difference in the outcome. I'm sure it didn't help matters though.

About the dog carrier: I bet Jessica got it for free. It always amazes me how much celebrities get from designers for absolutely NOTHING. I remember hearing one actress say that when she was struggling no one would even give her a MEAL, but when she made-it, she was getting designer stuff left and right. Even Madonna said that MOST of her designers clothes she NEVER pays for. That's so ironic to me coz obviously someone like Madonna could AFFORD to pay.

that is the only thing that really bugs me, the whole deal with rich people getting expensive items for free and then people like us, if we want it, having to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for it. ugh! i used to be much more quick to buy designer products but now its really got to be something i love. i hate to give gucci or dolce and gabbana any money knowing that i'm simply making up the cost of them giving their expensive shit away for free to any celebrity who asks.

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU!! First and foremost, I don't buy designer clothes period EXCEPT maybe at some outlet mall. I work in the women's clothing industry, so I'm fortunate enough to buy my clothes at cost. They are higher priced and quality clothing... and more or less designer, but NOT like gucci or dolce gabana. The deal is that the mark-up is so incredibly high!!! Even if I were RICH, RICH RICH, just knowing what I know, I wouldn't buy designer clothes at the retail price... (And that goes for wedding gowns and veils. My mom made my veil, and my wedding gown was sort of second-hand, and it was beautiful!!)I'd probably try to get them for free as well if I wanted to buy them at all. lol To be honest, some of the BEST clothing that I've ever worn and have had the most compliments on is a simple little somethin' somethin' that I might have made myself when I had the time. I'd get VERY EASY VOGUE PATTERNS, then get this GREAT FABRIC.... Well, I just don't have the time for that now, but sometimes I think I should make the time.

But I ABSOLUTELY AGREE that it really pisses me off that these celebs get all or most of their stuff for absolutely NOTHING, but the average person has to pay. I say, just don't do it!!! Go to outlet malls... Or don't be SUCKED IN to this trend thing. JUST SAY NO!! lol lol lol

On a side note, I think that I read somewhere that Oprah PAYS for her clothing because she just doesn't believe that in the celebrity freebie thing... She may have changed her mind though, but I think that used to be true.

I guess I can kinda see spoiling your dog that way. I'm definitely an animal lover - especially dogs. But I like a no frills, rough and ready big dog that'll play, swim, hike and jog with me. If I had a little frou frou yapper, I'd definitely doll it up. But they're really not my pref.
