It was after her second album One In a Million came out. It was in late 1996.

as a reformed goth, i can appreciate it. probably not as much as weepy, but those are very familiar names to me. i listened to a little bit of that stuff, though i remember i called it "amish goth" because....well, i don't know. it made sense at the time. lol

i was always more of a current93 guy where the really dark stuff was concerned. in fact, i'd really like to dip more into their music again (wish it wasn't so damn expensive).

Yeah, the names are kinda cool now that I look at all of them. Cooler than the actual bands for the most part. The one I would recommend is Faith And The Muse. I remember the first time I saw them live, when they played their song "All Lovers Lost", every member pulled out a violin and the entire song was performed on strings. It was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen/heard. Subsequent live renditions of that song have been all percussion which was also very cool. Their sound is very classical leaning which might appeal to you. Their website: http://www.mercyground.com/

The closest I ever came to Current93 is my Death In June best of comp. The whole neo-folk sound I find very creepy. The subtle fascist imagery doesn't help either. Scary.

I just realized there is a Prince connection. Faith And The Muse vocalist Monica Richards used to be in a punk band called Madhouse from the Washington D.C. area. This was before Prince created the Madhouse side project and he really wanted to use that name so Monica sold the name to Prince before forming her next group Strange Boutique and eventually Faith And The Muse. smile

Yes--it was her Janet album tour (in Moline, IL). MC Lyte (I need a ruffneck) opened, then R. Kelly came on stage and keep asking/singing "who in here wants me to take my pants off?" ill feeling ill barf
I was very dissappointed with the entire thing--R.Kelly was gross & Janet didn't even do an encore. I never liked her as much again.

lol I think you were being serious, but I find it HILARIOUS b/c my HS had about 140 people in it--TOTAL (9-12 grades). (And, I was in college at the time.)

Yeah, even back in 1995 R.Kelly was smarmy...as he came onstage it was all dark except for the big screen above the stage which showed a previously recorded segment of him smoking up (implied: pot) and then on to the show.
I forgot--LL Cool J was at the concert too--his Mr. Smith album had just come out.

That sounds really great. I'll check it out. I have a feeling I'd be into goth if I explored it. I used to listen to Siouxie a lot in my younger years.

But seriously, that list is going up on my fridge and next time I want to write a poem, I'll have it for inspiration. biggrin
