CinisterCee said: TRON said: Erykah Badu - 2 x Mary J. Blige Aphex Twin Mos Def How were these? The first time I saw Erykah Badu was in '97 at the height of my love for her. It wasn't really that long after the album came out. I was blown away by the audience. They knew every word to every song! I haven't kept up with her as much since, but that night was a perfect concert experience. She was gracious and talkative throughout and could capture the whole room's attention just by lighting candles. Mary J. Blige was wonderful. None of the oversinging she gets accused of for her award show appearances. Just great energy, great musicianship, great performance. Although I've been a fan since her first album, I didn't get to see her live until the "No More Drama" tour. She did plenty of hits, a good portion of new stuff, lots of ballads. I'd love to see her again her next time out. Aphex Twin I saw opening for Bjork in '95. I was barely familiar with his work at that point, but it set the stage for my future fandom. One of the best opening acts I've seen. The audience was really into it. Of course, a good chunk of the people around me were doing coke and lots of moshing took place during Bjork's show. Go figure! So I think the crowd was hyped up from the word go. It was my first time seeing a performance like that (knob-twiddling and DJ'ing, etc.) and I was impressed. Mos Def I saw at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival circa 2000. He was excellent. I don't know much of his music, but the vibe and the venue was perfect for his show. I don't know why I haven't explored his work further, cuz I really liked him live.

I don't think Rap & Hip Hop really works well on stage generally - at least not for large venues.
