Paul McCartney - Ram After listening to Chaos & Creation a ton lately (I think this is his best in YEARS...best since Tug of War or dare I say since Band on the Run?). It has made me dust off my copy of Ram.
Man, what an underrated album. It has the rawness of McCartney but more accessible songs like Band on the Run. Faves: Ram On Dear Boy Heart of the Country Monkberry Moon Delight The Back Seat of My Car Oh hell...the whole thing is awesome...

Love this album - this is the one I was comparing Chaos and Creation to - very nice, solid album.
I was shocked when I saw him perform Too Many People at the show I attended recently - I thought this was a song even McCartney himself had forgotten. Great stuff.

Chaos his best album since Tug of War and Band on the run (both great albums!).?
I don't think so.....what about the Flaming Pie album and Flowers in the dirt (more recent albums). Those albums are so much better then RAM (IMO I know...). RAM sounds a bit raw comparing it to other Macca albums (Back to the egg is another very nice ROCK album off Macca), but not the album that I think off as a pre-Chaos album. His first solo album 'McCartney' and 'Flaming Pie' are more in the line off Chaos. On the Macca board was a discussion going on that it was great to hear him sing Too many people live, but also a bit weird 'cause it was a bit off an attack at John at that time. So why play it live now?

He performed Too Many People I fucking love that song. Ram is indeed a brilliant album, perhaps his best solo album IMO. I've got Chaos, but i have to say im not a huge fan of it. I actually preferred his last 2 solo albums, Flaming Pie & Driving Rain, DR has quite a few ram-esqu numbers on there, and i much prefer the "band" sound on that album. I find there's no perspective with Pauls albums anymore. Every new album that comes out is his best since blah blah blah, Beatle comparisons, and the previous album is either forgotten or talked down, simply to talk up the new record.

Thats the one that I think is simply brilliant. He sounded so relaxed and cool. But comparing Mccartney albums are fun imo...I really love most of them...but I just kinda forgot about Ram too...and for some reason Chaos reminds me of it.

RAM is one of my all time favorite albums by paul.. brilliant work I tried to listen to Flaming Pie and I just couldn't get into it. Still listening to Chaos though. And the b-sides I have are also great. BTW, I like Mccartney II and Back to the Egg. More adventurous than some of the others. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Nice to see some Back to the Egg supporters here! I freakin' love that album. It rocks hard, yet has a nice variety of styles. Didn't care for McCartney 2, but I do love Coming Up and Temporary Secretary.
As for Ram and Chaos, both are amongst his best work- solo or with the Beatles even. Not a weak track on either one. Flaming Pie has some really great moments, but there are 4 or 5 fillers that bring it down a little bit for me.

I'm also a fan of Don't Say Goodnite which is one of the bonus tracks on the version I have. The other two bonus tracks are also instrumental, hence my comment. For fans of Chaos he will be releasing Jenny Wren as a single with three more B-sides on the 24th. As an import at first. Not sure about a domestic release. Track Listings 1. Jenny Wren 2. I Want You To Fly 3. This Loving Game 4. Summer of 59 Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Don't like McCartney II too much.
I love Coming up, One of these days and Darkroom. But overall it's just Paul playing with his new toys. I mean 'Bogey Music' AAAAAHHHHH We all seem to have our favorite Macca albums, but what about his worst album For me without a doubt: Press to play

BTW Long leather coat is a B-side of Hope and Deliverance I love Flaming Pie. When he performed Calico Skies on his DR tour it brought a whole new complextion to that song for me, absolutely beautiful. There were quite a lot of B-Sides to Off The Ground that were ok. Down To The River, Big Boys Bickering - and some others i cant think of right now. Speaking of Off The Ground, The Lovers That Never Were has to rank as one of the best McManus / McCarntey collaborations. Anyone else dig Elvis C and Macca's songs?

Veronica
Is it all in that pretty little head of yours? What goes on in that place in the dark? Well I used to know a girl and I would have sworn that her name was Veronica Well she used to have a carefree mind of her own and a delicate look in her eye These days I'm afraid she's not even sure if her name is Veronica Do you suppose, that waiting hands on eyes, Veronica has gone to hide? And all the time she laughs at those who shout her name and steal her clothes Veronica Veronica Did the days drag by? Did the favours wane? Did he roam down the town all the time? Will you wake from your dream, with a wolf at the door, reaching out for Veronica Well it was all of sixty-five years ago When the world was the street where she lived And a young man sailed on a ship in the sea With a picture of Veronica On the "Empress of India" And as she closed her eyes upon the world and picked upon the bones of last week's news She spoke his name outloud again Veronica sits in her favourite chair and she sits very quiet and still And they call her a name that they never get right and if they don't then nobody else will But she used to have a carefree mind of her own, with devilish look in her eye Saying "You can call me anything you like, but my name is Veronica"

I think they should release an album of their collaborations, a bit like Elvis did with Burt Bacharach a few years ago. The Lovers That Never Were 25 Fingers Tommy's Coming Home So Like Candy Playboy to a Man Don't Be Careless Love Veronica Mistress and Maid Pads Paws and Claws You Want Her Too Shallow Grave My Brave Face That Day Is Done Back On My Feet Ive not heard all of these , but the ones in bold i absolutely love.

Uncle Albert is everything great about Paul. It's totally silly, but there's a melancholy about it too in the beginning. I love those suite style songs, and it just feels like it's overflowing with musical ideas. I even like Linda's questionable pitch.
Too Many People is great, a style he should have embraced more often. Heart of the Country is nothing much, but i have always loved it. Great singalong stuff. Watch out George Benson! I'm still scared to get the new record. Check this song out at:

I'd really love to find a collection of his b-sides on CD somewhere- at least the b-sides from '89 on.... lots of good stuff, much of which were better than what made the albums.
I'd love for that Costello/McCartney compilation too! They complemented each other well, not like Lennon/McCartney- but it was definitely a wonderful thing they had going....
