The Foo Fighters - A Great Band or Not?

I say great. I was a casual fan (ie - I like the hits, etc) since they came out years ago, but I had the opportunity to see them close their tour (with Weezer) in Oakland and WOW!!!

Anyone else wanna chime in on them?

That may be true.... nod I dunno - they're just one of the better acts I've seen in years.... I would love to see them in a smaller venue.

I dont' think the Foos are really all that remarkable but in listening to a lot of the bands that have come out in the past several years, they're already influencing people, so I gotta give them props for that. And their cover of "Darling Nikki".....AWESOME!

I like them a lot...and I wasn´t a Nirvana fan in the 90´s. I usually don´t listen to that type of music, but the Foo Fighters are great plus Dave Grohl comes across as a genuine, real nice, down to earth and funny person, quite articulate and serious, but not too serious at the same time. I think they´re quite melodic. And they have a great sense of humor. And I like some of their videos.

In Your Honor is a so-so album, still has to grow on me, but I like it.

By the way, they write In Your Honor with American spelling and they´re an American band ( honor instead of honour) , but they spell "color" the British way on of their earlier albums (colour).

Does anybody know why ? I know it sounds a bit geeky but I find these kind of language details very fascinating because the English language has so many interesting variations.

So, does anybody know ?

I love love love the Foos. Theyre probably the best rock band this world has seen for the last ten years, in my opinion. Grohl has so come into his own since the whole Nirvana thing. I cant get enough!

seen them 3 times, they rock!

Not a classic band by any means, a bit of lacking on attitude at times to be honest. Too much millionaire weightload. But I loved the "Best Of You" single myself, and I guess they're a band that hardly anyone turns off when they're on the radio/TV.

who are you comparing them to then? Who is a classic band? I dunno about everyone else, but I was definitely not comparing them to all the real classic bands from 20/30 years ago!

is that what you mean or are you thinking of a recent band Ive forgotten about?!

I can't help but compare them to Nirvana. They don't seem that deep, innovative, melodic, hard, catchy, interesting, compared to them. But they seem pretty good live, and I like some of their songs.

It also makes me happy to see Dave succeed. It's not fair that his career should end just because Kurt was unstable. Kurt could have taken a tip from Dave and taken things a bit lighter.

They write real catchy tunes and the videos are pretty cool. Question: Is Dave strictly a rhythm player? I've always wondered about him and Gavin Rossdale. Do/Can they play guitar leads? Just curious...

Driving, catchy, melodic POP tunes with a sense of humor. Almost everything Nirvana was not.

Not a big fan but I like what I hear when the tunes come on the radio or when my son plays whatever CD he has by them.
Now that I think about, I showed my son how to play the chords to Learn to Fly. guitar

Yeah, the old classic bands was what I meant. In their own league Foo Fighters can surely compete with the biggest acts in contemporary rock.

I don't know if the Foo Fighters is a "great" band as far as "status" or "awards" like maybe Green Day, but for sure it's a very, very good band. I have ALWAYS loved Dave Grohl. For some reason, I've always thought that he was sort of "underated." It may have been that Kurt Cobain and Nirvana received so much attention that as a member, Dave had a hard time "competing" with his former self. But Dave is such a versatile musician and is so very talented. I also think that he appears to be a pretty down-to-Earth guy as far as rockers go.

I haven't heard all of In Your Honour yet, but DOA and The Best of You are really good. One by One was my essential playlist the Summer it came out - Have it All is a fave.

I have to say that they are GREAT live. I am not a rocker at heart, but have seen them twice at V festivl and Reading festival this year and they were one of the real highlights. If you get a chance to see them - GO!

I think FOo fighters sucks and that rock in general has gone incredibly downhill.
Soundgarden, Alice in CHains, Stone Temple Pilots, Faith no more, Jannes Addiction, Guns N ROses, Aerosmith all puts Foo Fighters to sleep by a mile. Let alone the classic bands like Led and Pink wink
