Bjork's "Where Is The Line" video: Scariest Video Ever?

I just saw this video Monday when I was out one night at this bar that plays videos and the DJ decided to shock us with Bjork's latest creation. Bjork's not a popular choice for the bar-going crowd to begin with, but THIS video had me staring open-mouthed for 5 minutes. It's really hard to describe and if it's online view at your own risk. I think slime is involved. All I have to say is I have to give it up to Bjork. No other artist I can think of has gone out of their way to intentionally bewilder even her die-hard fans with little regard at as to how they'd judge her. This video is tht case. Bjork is always labelled psychotic. This video will only add credence. God bless you Bjork!

That video is "Alarm Call". nod

I adore the "Where Is the Line?" video. Just saw it myself for the first time this week. It is intensely creepy- it's like a nightmare on film.

I heard a lot of snide remarks that night. The typical "that bitch is psychotic", and the "but she's an artist" comments. All I could say was "I'm sure it means something". At this typing I can't say I adore it, but I like the song and adore Bjork for pissing off detractors she had no chance of winning over anyways.

bjork doesn't give a shit about people who she's too weird for. they're not her audience and she doesn't seem to be bothered about winning their favor. she follows her own ideas and visions, and if people like it, cool. as weird as her stuff appears on the surface, when you hear her talk about her ideas, she's such a pragmatic woman. she can explain her craziest ideas in a way that makes perfect sense. i think she's amazing.

Synopsis:

Bjork is some strange sandbag warrior princess who gives birth to a mutant albino freak that pukes up slime. It can never fully break free from her so it reabsorbs into her body. Then, the haystacks in the barn she's in start taking shape as these demon forms and attack her until she's completely buried.

With a little digging and patience (if it's not for you), her work is loaded with meaning and emotion. She's definitely either an instant fit or an acquired taste, but so worth the effort. I can't think of any artist in this day and age that consistently dazzles and blows my mind as often as Bjork.

I read one time where she said that she makes her videos the way she does because the songs might be off-putting so she has the make the video memorable. I'm paraphrasing, but it's funny because from her point of view she is being pragmatic in this sense, but not like us normal humans.

Bjork, Radiohead, REM, Beck and Madonna are the artists who's videos I look forward to the most. Hell they're the only videos I look forward to.

My favourite artist and I completely agree with you TRON. Seeing the Pluto video live in Toronto was as surreal as it gets. I adore the Alarm Call video~ it's very sensuous. I don't know how I'll feeling about Where Is The Line ~ can't stand the thought of anyone(thing) attacking her mad

She seems to be establishing limits with the lyrics of that song and then translating that to the video. Trying to find where the line is between on being and another. Although the creature she's giving birth to appears evil, it's trying to break free from her and seems unable to, until it finally re-enters her womb. I think the message is that she wasn't letting go of it, so the hay sprites attack her. That's what I got out of it anyway. lol
