Here is a report from the Buenos Aires official album release party that took place last night at the Mao Room:

They played the new album many times and had a recorded message from Madonna saying 'Thank you for coming to my party. Are you ready to dance?'
They also showed the Hung Up video many times, played the Hung Up dance mixes and gave away copies of the 3-track commercial single.
There were posters all around for Hung Up and Confessions On A Dance Floor.
The place was packed with a very mixed crowd and everytime they played Hung Up as the night went on people cheered and danced more and more....

On the cover of her new album, Madonna is striking a pose. She's clad in Eighties-via-Noughties club bunny couture, almost breakdancing. The 'o' in her name has been replaced by a mirrorball. The title seals the deal: here is sleek, electronic dance music, it says, the like of which we have not heard from Madonna since the best bits of 1998's Ray of Light. There are nudges and winks here and there that suggest, moreover, that this is the kind of frothy Madonna confection we haven't enjoyed since the Eighties, when hot pink was last considered flattering.

Artists hate admitting that their old stuff is usually better than their middle period, but here is Madonna, quoting snatches of her old lyrics and rediscovering the rap-chat last heard on 'Vogue'. On 'I Love New York', she begs the forgiveness of the city she forfeited for a large estate in Wiltshire and a new life as Mrs Guy Ritchie. You get the distinct impression, too, that the sometime Queen of Pop has taken stock of reactions to her last couple of albums - 2000's not-exactly-epoch-making Music and 2003's poor-selling American Life - and has decided to give the people what they want: a high old time. Gone is the self-imposed task of opposing war or writing the Great American Album; back is the imperative to entertain. To paraphrase the Arctic Monkeys, she's remembered that she looks good on the dancefloor.

A retrenchment it may be, then, but Confessions is, on balance, a solid success. Inside, the 12 tracks flow seamlessly, in what used to be called an extended disco mix. The first single, 'Hung Up', sets the throbbing agenda. It's a monster of a tune, arrayed in homage around a sample of Abba's 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!'. This is only the second time ever the Swedes have allowed their pop motherlode to be mined in this way, and Madonna and her new sonic fixer, Stuart 'Jacques Lu Cont' Price have made disco gold with it. Regrettably, nothing afterwards quite matches 'Hung Up's tight exuberance, but Mrs Ritchie, Price, Mirwais and a brace of latterday Swedish pop manufacturers such as Murlyn and Bloodshy & Avant make a good fist of trying.

The sounds on this record are deliriously saturated, the dynamics piquantly tooled. There are songs about falling in love and having a good time. The only major glitch on the ears is the way Madonna and her henchmen rely overmuch on synthesised string rushes, the kind of thing that makes trance records so cheesy. You wish, too, that the melodies were a little tougher and that you weren't so pleased when recognisable references (such as the Giorgio Moroder throb that animates 'Future Lovers', or the Daft Punk nod on 'Forbidden Love') jump out at you.

But these are minor details. The next single, 'Sorry', sees Madonna taking a lover to task over an insistent dance-pop rush. 'Let It Will Be', meanwhile, is a kaleidoscopic track whose subtle synth hook and percolating equanimity make it an obvious candidate for single number three, if the pop law didn't state that third singles must always be ballads.

Spendidly, there are no actual ballads at all. The nearest thing is 'Isaac', the controversial song of praise to a kabbalah figurehead that has reportedly dismayed kabbalahists. It's the album's most glaring mis-step. Not for its subject matter per se, but for the shonky world-pop fusion instigated by the Hebrew chant that underpins the track.

The ballad-shaped hole on Confessions is also filled by 'How High', a spot of pumping self-analysis that does the thoughtful work of the album. It does this very well, with Madonna pondering the value of her fortune and fame. We should hastily move past 'Push', a clunky vocal melody passed off as a love song to Guy, and celebrate the final track. 'Like It or Not' adopts the glam stomp currently owned by Goldfrapp and runs with it, ending Confessions on a jaunty, jubilant note.

You might wonder what a spiritually inclined mother of two who rides and hunts and insists on being called Mrs Ritchie at film premieres is doing making a record for decadent, metrosexual night creatures to jack their bodies to. But hang the contradictions; these confessions are worth taking.

i can't wait! i'm going (for my first time ever) to madonna night at berlin (here in chicago). i need to dance to this new cd! just in case they don't have it yet, i'm bringing them a copy of confessions!

It seems like the closer we get to the 15th, the more excited I am to get this CD. It sounds like a party and a half. I can't wait to get this CD!

I'm always really excited when Maddy releases a new CD.Remember at the beginning of the year,we saw all those crazy fake tracklists and heard a bunch of wild rumors? LOL,I always like the excitement and madness that occurs when she's working on a new album.This new CD will help me survive the cold winter months,lol.

I just wanna say that I'M IN FREAKING LOVE WITH THIS ALBUM!!!!! It IS her best since RoL, no doubt about it!

Sure, it is just a fun dance record, but it is sooooo superbly crafted! I gotta drag the wife to one of the local gay clubs, just so there is a chance of us getting to dance to some tracks from this disc! (only the gay clubs will have the good taste to appreciate this album for the fantastic dance disc it is!!) I don't dislike any of the tracks, and that is rare for me (usually, at least one song on an album leaves me cold). The samples are cool, never overbearing. This is a fun, playful record that just kicks my ass with its fantastic beats!

Oh Maddy, you have made one helluva record! I once again reafirm that I love you as much as any straight man is allowed to by law! I cannot wait to pick up the limited edition deluxe version of this disc! If I gotta wait until December, so be it!

I understand her frustration, but in the end she should be happy. The leak has created quite a buzz, and most of us are planning on buying it anyway. I know that I was planning on just getting a burn from a friend until the limited edition comes out in December, so this really doesn't have an effect on my buying it. In fact, she is going to get me singing the praises of this CD to everyone I know, so she is getting free advertising at the very least!

I'm enjoying the album so far. Some fun stuff on here, and I like that it has a consistent sound throughout, it's not trying to be some buffet of different types of music like Prince's Symbol album.

There's 3 tracks that I really wish would have been left off, or at least worked on more. I Love New York has awful lyrics. Not fun cheeky awful, just plain awful. It's hard to listen to because her comments are so stupid and simple-minded. Isaac is goofy and could have been left off. Push sounds really trite IMO.

I do like the lush dense sound, and echoing vocals. The album has a really warm feel to it. Was Mirwais even involved with this album?, because it (thankfully) doesn't have his sound at all.

You really need to play this on a good stereo to enjoy it, it doesn't sound the same on small speakers.

I just wanted to contribute to this thread of sheer visibility's sakes.

Ane you Madging out? Popping on all her albums...listening to the new album non-stop? Catching all of her interviews, video shows, checking all the boards...constantly? If so...you should consider the challenge.

I challenge everyone to stop listening to Madonna from midnight tonight until the album comes out on the 15th. I feel I have listened to the album enough over the weekend...I need a Madonna time out. I am encouraging all of you to join me. 7 Madonna free days until you hear Hung-Up in all it's glory when you get Confessions on a Dancefloor. I know her music is getting played out everywhere...that's fine. YOU just can't put her on.

Bonus points if you are able to avoid anything Madonna all together.

Just heard the album on MTV's The Leak. I like it. The two weakest ones were "I Love New York" and "Push", but the rest was pretty good. It's definitely better than American Life, and I can even say that it's better than half of Music.

This is totally gonna make hardcore fans and dance freaks go crazy. As for mainstream listeners...we shall see i guess.

last night the crowd went nuts every time a new song was played on the dance floor! true, it was madonna night so they were all big fans but they were very excited by the songs. i sent a few friends some tracks and while they are not big madonna fans, they were excited by the new material. if radio supports the album, it will be a big hit because the material is her strongest in years.

everything i've read has said push was written for the peopel in ehr life who have pushed her and made her two better not just guy

I FINALLY heard Confessions on a Dancefloor and I really like it. I heard it on The Leak on MTV.com and I heard it on a pair of headphones but I have a feeling that it's a lot better on stereo. I think I will like it even more as I keep on hearing it. It's definetly has a Euro-Pop vibe going on throughout the whole thing. The songs I like the most so far are Hung Up, Issac, Push, Future Lovers and Like It Or Not. The whole thing is great and I will be at the record store next Tuesday.
