CMA Awards So I'm watching the country music awards tonight for no reason I can really think of. And I'm kind of shocked.
Shocked because I'm taken back to a few months ago when I was watching the VMAs on MTV. The music I'm hearing tonight (for the most part) is so much better than on that MTV crapfest. Martina McBride just did a mind-blowing version of "Help Me Make It Through The Night" (her voice is amazing), and Garth Brooks rocked Times Square with his tribute to Chris Ledoux. I think my mind has just been opened even more to the fact that it's not about the "genre" or the "box" that the music industry seems to put artists in...Bon Jovi performed on tonight's show...and they sounded really good. It's only about the music, and the performer. General statements about a genre of music such as "I don't like country", or even "I don't like rap" are largely ridiculous. I've found myself both moved by Garth Brooks' "The Dance", and also trying to learn the words to Nelly's "Country Grammar" back when it came out. I've got to go now... Dolly Parton is about to perform with Elton John. | |
