you act like those are the only two options an artist has..prince doesnt have to leave masterpieces up to "chance". he could nuture and cultivate an album until its a masterpiece. just like kate bush did (see anxiety's comment) or sade (who on average takes seven years per album). In Prince's case I don't think he can that easily. That's what I meant to say, the song is in his head, he records it, next one.
