Anyone else seeing Billy Idol in London tonight?

I remember a few of you guys booking tickets the same time as I did. I'm SO going to be the youngest person there. I always feel like it when I see Duran Duran too.

I'm going on tuesday. Should be a great show, let us know what the london show is like. There's no support act now so we should get the full show.

Hope the crowd isn't too old, I'm 19 and going with 3 others who'll be judging me on this!

Actually, I think it'll be full of fat 40-something white grrrrls. In the UK Billy's getting the sort of people who used to go see Gary Glitter every Xmas. lol

Oh MY. I wasn't the youngest there. Not by a long shot. It was about 50/50 between old rockers and people in their 20s, even a couple of kids eek We were right up at the front at the strt but because some very strange annoying 40 something men still in their work suits but for some reason feeling the need to pretend it was 25 years ago all over again, became so incredibly annying it was impossible to stay.

Anyway, here are my photos:

It certainly wasn't the best concert I've been to. I think the audience atmosphere made it worse than it actually was.

Yeah, a dumb heavy metal crowd. In all fairness there were some really great moments - Kiss Me Deadly, To Be A Lover, White Wedding, Ready Steady Go, Rebel Yell, the closing Mony Mony - but too few for a two hour plus show. Steve Stevens' rock god theatrics pissed me off (yes, you can play guitar quite magnificently Steve, but you're a hired session man so fuck off into the background where you belong), the four new songs were four songs too many, and did Billy need to do his male stripper act? Yes, you look great for a fifty year old ex-junkie with a metal leg, Billy. Nice flat tummy. Got it the first time. Now put it away.

He obviously cared about his audience though. He gave out drumsticks, signed paper plates and autographed whatever people gave him, while singing. Can't see Prince ever doing that.

Are you going next year, Ellie?

I don't think so. It was the older people in the crowd that really put me off. Yes, Generation X were a punk band, but Billy Idol is a star of the MTV generation. He's not punk anymore, so stop trying to recreate your youth by acting like complete knobheads and nearly elbowing young women in the eyes without caring. It's not big or clever.

I did like it when some bird threw her bra on the stage and he pretended to put it on, then hung it off the guitar player's mic stand for the rest of the show.
