Don't like McCartney II too much.
I love Coming up, One of these days and Darkroom. But overall it's just Paul playing with his new toys. I mean 'Bogey Music' AAAAAHHHHH lol lol

We all seem to have our favorite Macca albums, but what about his worst album confused
For me without a doubt: Press to play

boxed I hate to say it because it just SCREAMS 80s and is totally not Paul's style...but for some reason I like Press to Play. Its definitely a guilty pleasure of mine...but I play it pretty regularly. I really like Venus & Mars too.

I haven't heard Press to Play in a long time. I know it didn't really have any classics on it, but I liked a lot of songs on it--Stranglehold, Good Times Coming, Angry, Press, It's Not True.

It's not very Paul. Kind of a monster production rock cd with absolutely no classics on it. Like I said I haven't heard it in a while. But from what I remember I like it better than Pipes of Peace...well, shit, that's not saying much is it?

I loved Pipes of Peace. I know it's kinda silly, syrupy pop, but it's fun. Kinda like Elvis Costello's "Punch the Clock" at the time, same story....

Pipes Of Peace is my least favourite macca album. It was a nice idea to twin Tug Of War (a great record) with a Peace themed album, but it just fails on so many levels. I think from 1983-1988, Paul went through a really bad slump in form and lost his direction. Press to play was ok (i love the title track) but it was still very patchy, and Give My Regards to Broad Street has to rank as one of the worst ideas he's ever had. The 80's gave us two great paul albums in Tug Of War and Flowers in The Dirt, other than that it was a bad decade for him IMO.

Yep, my two favorites from the 80's as well.
Two albums amongst his very best IMO
Especially love the diversity from Tug of War. Musically it jumps to every side and the vocals on that album are really unbelievable cool
Ebony and Ivory is the one song on that album that I don't like.

BTW two classics in a decade is not that bad wink

I always felt Flowers In The Dirt could have been better. Alot of the songs recorded around that time that never made the album were strong songs, better than some of the weaker stuff on the album. I loved Back On My Feet - the BSide to Once Upon A Long Ago, I think it was the first McCartney McManus collaboration.

That's a good comparison. They're both slick pop 80's sounding records. Sort of seperate from most of the rest of the artists' catalogs.

But I think Punch the Clock has much better songs, including two genuine Elvis classics in Everyday I Write the Book and Shipbuilding. Probably because it's closer to Elvis' prime than Pipes of Peace is to Paul's. I also like Goodbye Cruel World.

Pipes of Peace has some dreadful stuff on it--The Man has to be one of the worst songs ever written. There is some fun stuff on it, I guess--Undercover, Sweetest Little Show, Hey Hey, So Bad is decent. Sorry, SdlDawn, I don't like Through Our Love...yech.

That's exactly the feeling I have for Press To Play.

Another McCartney album that I like for some reason is Off The Ground. I can listen to that any time any place, and it brings a smile to my face. The title track, Mistess & Maid, Hope For Deliverance, and C'Mon People (esp Cosmic Conscience) are all class A McCartney tunes. Even if no one else agrees with me. lol

I just bought 3 of the CD singles released from Off the Ground, for their b-sides. I think Off the Ground is an underrated album, but truthfully, the b-sides from that album are better than much of what is on the actual album. I also bought the singles for Fine Line and Jenny Wren, so I'm looking forward to lots of Paul b-sides!!

I think "off the ground" is wonderful.. I just think a better production should have been used on it.. it would have been one of his best albums if that were the case...

Loving 'Off the ground'. I thought it was a little less than Flowers in the dirt, but still some great tracks on it.
My favorites on the album:

Looking for changes
Mistress and maid
the lovers that never were
Winedark open sea
C'mon people (a real Macca classic IMO, fell in love with that track the first time i've heard it and loving it ever since)!

Off The ground is better than a lot make out. It wasnt as good as Flowers, but it produced some excellent songs. Of all pauls albums that is the one that could have done with some one from his record company having final say as to what songs went on the album. Biker Like an Icon is among the worst songs hes ever done, worse than all the b-sides to the record.

the thing about his music is.. the b side thing.. like with all the Off the Ground.. and flowers.. and other records like that, that contained many b-sides.. it was like a treasure to find them.. but u soon realize why they were b sides... lol
