Beck Live...my review

I mean the guy and his band came out dressed as boy scouts and after the first song made everyone do the boy scout pledge. And they sounded amazing and put on a great show. Mostly greatest hits plus new stuff. This was in Las Vegas.

I'm curious - does he play any instruments live? And is he a good musician?

YES.. he can play just about anything...

guitar, piano... whatever.. he is one of those all around musicians.. and I have many shows where he is with his acoustic guitar.. he'll run over to the keyboard..

very well rounded

I've never understood why he's so acclaimed as an artist. He's a multi-instrumentalist, but very average in everything he plays and does.

I think his songwriting is outstanding.. sure he's had some humorous stuff..but if u read off the lyrics of the guero album (like missing, girl etc..) its like reading off poetry.. stuff thats above most stuff I hear in songs..

Beck is my homeboy

I also think the emotional whirling darkness of Sea Change brought him to a new level as an artist.. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed such a somber, not to mention a whole album devoted to such dispair and sadness..

Sea Change was the perfect title.. wonderful little album it is

nod at the St. Paul show in September (my first Beck concert! woot!) during the course of the show he played: guitar, harmonium, and drums (briefly).

absolutely right about the Guero lyrics, and i hold the same opinion about so many Beck lyrics being akin to poetry. on the Mutations album, particularly "Dead Melodies" and "We Live Again".

people that only associate Beck with his "Loser" image or thinking he only makes superficial party/dance music are missing out. while Beck obviously DOES do that kind of music, too - and does it spectacularly imo - he's a lot deeper than the less-acquainted might realize.

i love Beck.

I highly rec. people finding the kcrw sessions he did on the radio back during the mutations era.. he would go on there and turn those songs into something totally new..

i have tons of beck outtakes and boots...he is highly entertaining and deeper than what most people assume from his wicked sense of ironic humour

speaking of Beck mixing/changing songs around.....before they came out there was a great mix of stuff being played.....one song was the theme from Footloose that he slowed down at times and it sounded hillarious...i wonder if it was his mix
