i think the beekeeper is a very strong collection of work. it doesn't fall prey to any trends that would date it over time (unlike choirgirl and venus, both of which i love but sound very late 90's). next to pele, i would still say this record is my favorite of her career.

i have to say it's one album that actually gets better and richer with age. "parasol" "martha's foolish ginger" and "jamaica inn" all sound AMAZING now whereas i didn't like any of them before.
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

i know the album came out in the springtime but it is a great fall record. the changing of the leaves and the death of the year's cycle are very fitting scenery for the record.

I'll forever assosciate it with Spring. To me, Scarlet is an Indian Summer record (September) and Choirgirl is Fall (October/November).

This album didn't "do it" for me to begin with, but it has grown on me a bit since I first got it. Someone here pointed out how she ends every song exactly the same and that totally stands out when I listen to it now--kind of gets on my nerves.

i actually said that about scarlet's walk. its one of the things that irk me about that record. i don't think the songs on beekeeper share that flaw, though.

The Beekeeper is like a living, breathing sorta thing. It never gets stale. Its timeless as if it knows something that I dont yet know. Its a very satisfying experience, time after time.

yeah, me too. Beekeeper fell flat with me after about 4 listens. Scarlet's Walk is still one of my favorites by her.

Very insightful Dreamfactory. It is progressive and feels like the mysteries of Life unfolding when the listener is open and ready for them with more secrets waiting just around the next chord. I love it more than ever.

see that's how I feel about Scarlet's Walk.....the more I listen to it the more I like it....not saying that I didn't like from it the start. I just like it even more now.

Definitely a wiser, more loving update on Pele.

Maybe three or four songs don't end that way, but the other 15 or so do.

never noticed...i guess because the songs don't all sound so similar it never occurred to me they end in the same manner.
