Ace said: TRON said: Just grabbing at straws I'd say there's somewhat of a similarity between the retro delivery of the music, image and performance. Prince was going for a classic 70's soul vibe and Madonna is going for late 70's disco. Sort of returning to their roots, but also digging deeper to an era right before they debuted. And, both albums seem to be a bid for the mainstream after the insular, message-driven and dark "American Life" and "The Rainbow Children". But I can't see much in common past that.
Good analysis. i think, first, "musicology era" needs to be defined. technically he is still in this era since nothing new has come out. and i still think its interesting that mr. origmind was never able to give us a definition of what his statement meant. maybe even he doesn't know.

I see Confessions on a Dance Floor as more of a Light Years phase, but I can only base that on the song "Hung Up" and the image. I have yet to hear that album but have heard that "Hung Up" is misleading... Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! it's more Fever meets Impossible Princess if you want a kylie reference. the first album meets Ray of Light Once you put your hand in the flame

nobody asked me but i'ma tell it anyway. musically, yes, its very debut meets ray of light. lyrically its more erotica meets ray of light. imo, of course.

fever was very much the same thing return to dance/pop disco influnced nod to gay fans. much more uptempo with only fragile slowing it down. Once you put your hand in the flame

Yeah, but the only slow song on Light Years is "Bittersweet Goodbye" and Fever came off the heels of a successful album in Light Years. I'd be thrilled if COADF sounds like Fever as that's one of my favorite albums of all time. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! In a way, it is similar to Bedtime Stories with its urban grooves and its misleading reputation as a happy pop album. That said, the influences are different and the comparisons are more valid with the slower songs ("Chocolate" et. al.). Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! I agree. The only time I see the two as going through similar phases is 1997-1998, although the reception was different. I still see this phase from 2000 until now being somewhat similar. Sure, the take on it is different. Madonna's albums have been more guitar-drenched, introspective and sharp and Kylie's have been more celebratory, but I see both being inspired by French disco and electronica a la Daft Punk.

(i.e. Bedtime Stories), and now Madonna goes back to dance/disco. i never understood the constant comparison apart from the obvious. but sure, shifting their albums around you can see similiarities though at different times.

Seems like there's more M fans than P on here. here's 2 google groups for M fans: http://groups.google.com/...schg&hl=en http://groups.google.com/...schg&hl=en i've wondered that for a while now. madonna gets a whole lot more praise here than prince does and this site is dedicated to HIM. now i like madonna a lot but this is something i've noticed for quite sometime. strange but true. You're joking, right? Madonna gets dissed here on a regular basis. There are some folks here who claim to be "fans" of hers and they still attack her every move, lol. But if you're wondering why she is mentioned here alot here lately,it's only because she has a new CD coming out. There's not alot going on with Prince these days (he's keeping a low profile).

I try not to think of "Perfection" too much. It's ok, but it certainly isn't up to the standards of Neon Nights. I'm a bit disappointed that all of this hype revolved around a song that samples "Turn the Beat Around", and not very well. The video is terrible. That said, I'll still buy Dannii's album as soon as I can and hope for the best. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018!
