It'll take me awhile before I decide how this album stacks up to the others.

No. I much prefer American Life as a whole. She tried a lot of different things on that record. COAD is alright, but very disposable. I don't think I'll find myself listening to it as much as her previous ones. I think my favorite album is still Bedtime Stories.

Hell yeah Bedtime Stories ROCKS!!!!! I do like COADF so far though a lot. How many times have you listened?

So far, maybe 10. There are two songs I absolutely can't stand: Isaac, which sounds almost comical to me (clearly everyone else here loves it, though....except for Rip biggrin) and I Love New York. This record sounds so 1997 lol Again, I think the problem is with Stuart Price.

Maybe not (can you hear the faint strains of "Be My Lover" against this production lol?), but you also are able to take Isaac seriously wink

isaac kind of scares me because i'm not exactly sure what she's saying with that song. at the end, the spoken bit explains that the song is about the gates of hell opening and the angels looking down with the light behind them. earlier in the song madonna sings some line about the gate's been opened even with your spirit broken. something like that. i think the song is hot but i'm not so sure i like the imagery or the message.

I'm too busy laughing at the fact that she recycled Frozen and added some crazy Kabbalist chanting in the background falloff

And at the beginning she is saying, "kaballahaladingdongdadoobadoobadang" wink

She's just incredible. It will be interesting to see if Gwen, Janet and Mariah manage to hold up at nearly 50 years of age seeing as they're next in line.

which is odd, because BS is one of her actual disposable records. it's great, but there's not much substance to it beyond the gloss. personally, i think COAD is too indisposable, compared to what's been advertised so far. i do still prefer AL as a whole, but i see the comparisons to ROL very easily. it's ABOUT stuff, but that aspect isn't overshadowning, which sometimes gets in the way of the enjoyment of AL.

I really think this record could have been incredible, but having Stuart produce so many songs really makes the songs blend together into one. I can understand why continously mixing this thing will be easy. I think she should have mixed up her producers a bit.
[Edited 11/3/05 13:49pm]

i agree about Stuart Price. much of it sounds too samey to me. and it is missing that extra spark to make the tracks come alive. most of them are quite good, but overall, i feel like it's a bit too-subdued an affair for supposedly being a balls-out straight up dance record.

Musically, though, it isn't wink Has she done songs much better than "Secret"? I can't say I've ever found Madonna to be particularly profound, save for a few tracks like "Oh Father" (before she got pretentious and "learned" how to sing). The thing with this record is that it isn't nearly as distinctive as most of her previous efforts. There's something lacking.
