Let's See...J.Lo/Jennifer Lopez...sexy, good body, good dancer, interesting sense of style and can cause ripples by the outfits she wears, decent voice (although nothing especially strong) releases a string of catchy but not groundbreaking singles and has success with acceptable in acting in a string of mainstream movies (NOT including the Wedding Planner, a movie that not even Matthew McHotty could make watchable).

At least J-Lo has yet to be a part of anything as mind numbingly horrible as "Shanghai Surprise" NOW, before y'all get your panties in a bundle, I don't really think J.Lo will have the staying power of Madonna. I'm just comparing her to another performer of mediocre talent but mega media skills who broke her way through into fame. In today's pop radio, I'm much happier to hear J.lo than much of the other crap floating out there. "Play" was right up there with the catchiest happiest pop moments of last summer... Is she the best thing ever? hell no...Is she talented enough (as 'suoperstars go)? IMO yes. Will she last? that'll only happen if she finds some controversy or branches out and shows some chops. I dont think anything is wrong with JLo but I do think she is overrated. In my opinion there is nothing that special about her to make her such a super start. Her voice isnt that great and her music sounds pretty lame.

j-lo does have talent. she can sing,dance, and act. she isn't the best. she does release very catchy hits and her sounding voice is pretty good. she did get nomiated for an oscar or golden globe for selena. still, it does not mean she is the best, all it means is she has talent. she has beauty. i don't know why guys find big butts attractive but whatever. she has a nice face and she can be accepted by the woman who aren't skinny like christina aquilera. Poor Jennifer Lopez, all that hard work and ambition and all she's really known for are bad movies and that skimpy green dess. I think that the girl does have some talent and she has racked up a good amount of accomplishments in the dance world. But perhaps JLo needs to stay off of the movie screen unless she wants it to overshadow what she does best. | |

There is always a backlash against stars whose hype outgrows their level of talent.
Just like with Alicia Keys, people were okay with Alicia until the hype machine starting pushing her in everyone's face as some sort of great artist and showering her with awards that she didn't deserve. Alicia has a lot of potential, but the amount of hype surrounding her was out of proportion to her true abilities. I think the same thing happened to J Lo. She is pushed in everyone's face as some sort of great diva when she really isn't all that. Her face and body are okay, and her butt is the same size as millions of other women. Her voice is okay and her acting is okay but not great. Everything about her is okay, but the level of hype around her is too much. Jennifer Lopez is played up big as "J Lo" the diva and star of screen and the music charts when her talent is just not that special. She's overexposed in the movies, music, a clothing line, fashion and cosmetics line, and a restaurant. Plus she lost a lot of her street cred in the hood when she dumped P. Diddy and married a white dancer. | |
