And Mariah sampled a lot ever since Fantasy but she seems to credit it usually.

Second, it is shocking that any artist on a major label could sample and not claer it. Most big companies have very conservative lawyers who would have a fit if they knew that was happening?

The Emotions had a song out called "You Get The Best Of My Love" Mariah used the a sample for one her songs. I can't think of the title but I will try to Goggle it and org note it to you.

A few years ago the Emotions started to speak out about their lawsuit which had been going on for few years.

I can't understand way you would think the music industry would not use sample without paying. A lot of older artist are in a bad financial position and don't have the money to hire lawyers to get the compensation they deserve.

You can just look at what G. Clinton stituation with his old record company owner collectng royalties when he did not own the rights to the music. Even going so far as to sue some of the rappers who were using the songs.

Or go back to the SugarHill gang. Chic had to sue them over "Rapper Delight"

CinisterCee	Mariah didn't sample the actual mechanical original recording of "Best Of My Love", but the similar chords were chosen as a tribute to The Emotions... the fucken song is called "Emotions"

Thanks Laura for the article you orgnoted me. very interesting.

I love both Best of My Love and Emotions and I never noticed that.... I guess cuz the songs have such different feels....

but i guess the bass riff from best of my love is kinda of used in Emotions but played as chords by the whole band.

But as CinisterCee said... was she doing it on purpose?

Regardless of what anyone says or how she dresses, Mariah is a talented musician even if she doesn't play an instrument. She has natural musical ability and a great ear (her mom is an opera singer)
