first they wanted to be radiohead but they realized that couldn't happen. then they went through some kind of rem phase. now chris thinks he is bono. taking on the same causes (which, in the end, is actually a great thing because support is support, no?) and making comments like "all we want to do is make great music and blow u2 out of the water," is he really that dumb? the latest round of chris's i-must-be-as-cool-as-bono phase is the following, from yahoo newswire, "Coldplay singer outbids Bono in auction for REM lunchbox. NEW YORK, NY Wednesday Oct.19.2005 /netmusiccountdown.com/ -- Coldplay's Chris Martin faced off against U2's Bono last Sunday (October 16th), but it was all in the name of love and charity." i suppose what could be better than trying to be rem or u2? trying to incorporate rem AND u2 into a pathetic game of wannabe/ I can't stand Coldplay, bar that song with the backwards going video. Chris Martin's ok though - he's the only rock star who's bothered highlighting Haiti's ongoing desperate plight in the media though his Make Trade Fair work. Well, him and Bono. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

That is reeeallly stoooopid. i guess that fits with the bands impact on me. and what is it that c. martin is trying to do when he's playing that piano, and start his pulling things down from the sky routine? what is that really? are there beams of truth and beauty raining down that he is grabbing that i can't see? They actually don't bother me that much. It's a take it or leave it thing I have for them; I actually Like the "Fix You" song though... it almost made me want to purchase the XY disc...but I think alot of the posts are dead on when they say the music is safe, beige, etc., I would have purchased the latest cd not because I was raving to have it, rather than just having something to add to the cd collection "just because", and then you could pretty much insert any of the adjectives that our fellow orgers pointed used to describe the record...

I liked hearing the "Speed of Sound" single played over the loudspeakers while I was waiting for the bus as some shop's corner the other night. It was raining, cold and dark. Fit the mood perfectly. And I didn't have any Brighter Death Now on my Walkman.
Other than that, Coldplay must be the perfect bend for young 20-something student couples who have just moved together straight out of their parents' houses and cry together while having sex.

"Clocks" is the only Coldplay song I like. That piano melody burrows into my brain and stays there. But they had to ruin the moment by rereleasing the inferior remix retitled "Speed Of Sound" earlier this year. Rats.

Clocks was the last track they did for Rush of Blood.. and Speed of Sound was where they picked up.. They wanted to bridge the gap.. it makes sense, but not exactly a risky decision.. I love speed now, I was disgusted at first though... Expectations flew after those two albums... which I can see why.. but If they do anything else.. it should be original.. completely.. I would hope.. Rush Of Blood was a good step after parachutes.. x&y is arguable [Edited 10/22/05 14:25pm]
