Some remakes I really like are:

I Feel For You - Chaka Khan
I Do Love You - GQ

nod Yes! Definitely those two, along with some of my other favorite remakes, but not necessarily prefered:

Together - Tierra

All I Do Is Think Of You - Troop

Do Me, Baby - Melissa Morgan

Natural High - Def Con 4

Dman, i got their album somewhere. I thought I was the only one lol If i remember, they remind me of an early tony toni tone somewhat.

Yeah troops version is my preferred too

I found myself liking the Chili Peppers version of "Higher Ground" just a tad better ( easy! I sed just a tad ) than Stevie's.
I never thought somethin' like that could happen.

It's a classic for Bobby so he would get the obvious edge , but Ricky Peterson did a pretty good remake too ( 1991 ) cool
The vocal-climax of this version is amazing .

No matter , the never ending sailing-part in Bobby's original is one of kind and a timeless journey .

Any cover Luther or Isleys did is as good as the original and sometimes it's far superior.

Isleys: "Listen to the Music", "Summer Breeze", "It's Too Late", "Brother, Brother, Brother", "Hello It's Me", "Spill The Wine", "Lay Lady Lay" "Love The One You're With" "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight".

That whole project is great! I love their take on OHIO. I don't think there's another group that did remakes as well as they did. They actually reconstructed the songs...even their own when they re-worked That Lady.

Isleys got me listening to a lot of corny-ass white-boy pop & folk rock like James Taylor, Carol King, Doobies and CSNY.

"Across the Universe" - The Beatles vs. Fiona Apple

"Smooth Criminal" - Michael Jackson vs. Alien Ant Farm

Call me crazy, but I like Fiona's version much more than I like the Beatles. Then again I'm not a huge Beatles fan, so I would say that. No offense to Madonna fans, but version is just god awful. I always have liked Gladys Knight and the Pips's version better than Marvin's for some reason.

Hmmm...sorry I'd have to disagree. Wasn't that around the time when Luther recorded a bunch of remakes? It wasn't bad, it just didn't leave me the same feeling I get from Stevie's.

Why do you prefer Luther's?

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH STYMIE, 90% OF LUTHER'S REMAKES ARE BETTER THAN THE ORGINALS ESP. IF THIS WORLD WAS MINE WITH CHERLY LYNN lol

What do Y'all think of these covers and originals?
James Taylor's version of "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)" vs Marvin Gaye's original...

Marvin...

The Isley Brothers' version of "Hello, It's Me" vs. Todd Rundgren's original...

This one is tough... I think I'm gonna hand it to Ron and the boys just for the intro alone and singing "Hello" 30 times before the first verse.

Luther Vandross's version Of "A House Is Not A Home" vs any of Burt Bacharach's original versions...

Do, do, do, do, duummmm....

Luther Vandross's version of "Anyone who had A Heart" vs. Dionne Warwick/Burt Bacharach's original...

I'm going with Dionne and Burt on this one.

New Birth's version of "Wildflower" vs. the Skylark original....

"Shoe baby..."

Friends of Distinction's vocal version of "Grazin' In The Grass" vs Hugh Masekela's original instrumental...

"I can diggydiggydiggy She can diggydiggydiggy We can diggydiggydiggy... Oh,"

Young Holt Unlinmited's instrumental, "Soulful Strut" vs. Barbara Acklin's original vocal version, "Am I The Same Girl"...

I dig the vocal version better.

Luther Vandross's version of "If Only For One Night" vs. Brenda Russell's original...

I think this one is a tie. Brenda's holds more emotional weight. Luther sounds like he's trying to get some drawers.

The Isleys' version of "Summer Breeze" vs the Seals and Crofts original....

Isley...

Stevie sings that song like he's bored to me. Except for Minnie's beautiful voice in the end, I can do without it altogether.

Does the 10% includes "Always and Forever"? He's made some good remakes, no doubt, and a few of them I definitely thought were his originals, but that one was the biggest disappointment.

I agree! I love Luther's remakes and in most cases, his remakes are better than the original versions. But his 1994 album of covers (titled 'Songs') was a total disappointment. His remakes of "Endless Love" and "Always and Forever" were surprisingly flat and tedious. With this album,he chose classics that really didn't need to be updated, sorta like Prince's remake of "Betcha By Golly Wow".
