70's Soft Rock Jam of the Day - Have you ever been Mellow?

I love this song. And apparently can't get it out of my head.

There was a time when I was
in a hurry as you are
I was like you
There was a day when I just
had to tell my point of view
I was like you
Now I don't mean to make you frown
No, I just want you to slow down

Have you never been mellow?
Have you never tried to find a comfort from inside you?
Have you never been happy just to hear your song? nod
Have you never let someone else be strong?

Running around as you do
with your head up in the clouds
I was like you
Never had time to lay back,
kick your shoes off, close your eyes
I was like you
Now you're not hard to understand
You need someone to take your hand

Have you never been mellow?
Have you never tried to find a comfort from ins-i-i-i-i-i-ide you?
Have you never been happy just to hear your song?
Have you never let someone else be strong?

Seriously, I've been on a 70s ballad vibe today. I've listened to 'We're All Alone' by Rita Coolidge about eight times this evening. I think it's an Autumn thing.

Pretty cool, but "I Honestly Love You" is tops for me. I had a dream about Olivia and that song once.

That song made me cry once. I'd drank a lot of red wine though.

I'm listening to Swing Out Sister and it's as cloase as you can get to 70's ballads without playing any 70's ballads biggrin

She practically weeps that song...it was the Nothing Compares 2 U of the 70's.

Agreed. When I was a kid, Olivia, Donna, Yvonne and Stevie Nicks were THE shit to me. I had mad crushes on them.
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."

Outside the rain begins and it may never end
So cry no more on the shore
A dream will take us out to sea
Forever more forever more
Close your eyes and dream
And and you can be with me
'Neath the waves through the caves of hours
Long forgotten now
We're all alone
We're all alone

Close the window
Calm the light
And it will be alright
No need to bother now
Let it out
Let it all begin
Learn how to pretend

Once a story's told
It can't help but grow old
Roses do
Lovers too
So cast your seasons to the wind
And hold me dear
Oh, hold me dear

Close the window
Calm the light
And it will be alright
No need to bother now
Let it out
Let it all begin
All's forgotten now
We're all alone
oh-oh, we're all alone

Close the window
Calm the light
And it will be alright
No need to bother now
Let it out
Let it all begin
Owe it to the wind, my love

Oh yeah that song was stuck ever since I saw 'Grease' back in 1978.

This is one of her early greats! I love ONJ, and not in a cheesy way. I think hers was one of the finest pop voices of the 70s.

nod She sang softer, because that was her style not because she couldn't sing (Ashanti). She could belt on the rare occasion that she needed to.

Where is the soft-rock these days? Where's the next Fleetwood Mac?

Norah Jones is okay but her "little girl lost, smoking 40 Camels a day" voice gets on my tits after a while.

Katie Melua is okay but the singing-flat gimmick soon wears thin.

Where is k.d. these days? She could knock out a soft-rock album in her sleep.

What happened to Madonna's Carpenters-esque moments? 'Rain', 'Crazy For You', 'I'll Remember', 'Take A Bow'...

UGH! I hated most of those songs. Have a Cow...Pain? Thank god COAD will be all dance and we won't get any of those moments.

But I do agree...where is the next Fleetwood Mac? The genre is NOT dead...it's just that no one dares to make that music any more.
