well...

I'm a Kylie junkie and I have 2 say I don't see any similarity between Madonna and
Kylie, aoart from the Gay following...

UK has so much of these sorta pop songs. I just wished it was a bit sexier like giurls aloud. I just feel it doesn't have much personality, which is something even "music" had. I prefer rachel stevens lol

How old is that article? 1990?

Neighbours is still shown twice daily on bbc1 over in UK. Its bigger over here then in aussie.

I remember seeing a danni minogue video with her prancing about on a beach doing a cover of a disco song all camped up. Very long time ago now She looked hot.

Dannii is destroying her career since she released "Perfection"...

She was dropped from London after "Neon Nights" album (a hit album...and her best
2 date!)...Some material was recorded for a second album with London Records...

She's know signed 2 cheesy dance label...

London did not drop her. London was being reorganized and gave her the opition to stay and wait two years til they restructered or go out on her own and get a contract with someone else.

Around The World Records i think has screwed her over by pushing her album back 3 times now because they didn't like the competition she was going against. Maybe Dannii should have stayed at London and waited the restructing out.

Kylie has put more effort and class into her music than Madonna since 2000. That's why her music since 2000 is superior to Madonna's. nod

if Kylie could work up some more energy and imagination on-record than some post-coital cooing over a disco beat, you might have a point. as it is, she's Mariah for club queens.

ok, i admit after this thread went down the path of critiquing every female performer outside of madonna, i lost interest. that said, why does every thread about madonna or janet jackson or kylie minogue or mariah carey or whoever turn into a "my hag is better than your hag" contest?

it is possible to like more than one female pop star. i love janet, she's my favorite of the bunch. still, i love madonna and i thoroughly enjoy kylie. i hardly think this makes me an anomaly of some kind. shrug

somehow talking about madonna always conjurs up the comparisons of every other female pop star. why? who cares? we can have janet threads and kylie threads and mariah threads and the like. the org is big enough for all of us.

ok. i'm done. enjoy your evening. lol

The video is the #1 most requested video on VH-1,and I think it is still Number 9 on MTV's TRL.You just have to catch it at the right time. These channels rarely show music videos these days lol

Well, I guess I'll have to jump to Madonna's defense then.

Class doesn't matter at all when it comes to music. And as soon as Kylie stops doing those cheesy lingerie pin-up calendars, we can discuss how classy she is. lol As far as effort, I think Madonna's put a lot of heart into her last 2 records and a ton of effort into her last 2 tours. I don't get where you think she's been lazy or not putting forth as much effort. I think sonically, visually and thematically, she's pushing herself as hard as ever. She continues to evolve and try new things. Plus, as I've said all along...a lot of her songs are actually about something. wink

It's okay if you're personal preference is Kylie at this point, but I don't see how class and effort have anything to do with it.

I've never understood what's so great about Kylie. Her music is fun and danceable, but it's not very deep or introspective.I don't think she could ever come up with something as substantial as 'Ray Of Light'.I know the Kylie fans are gonna attack me for saying this (lol) but she is a lightweight performer, nothing more.

I think the comparisons Kylie gets to Madonna are both fair and unfair.

I mean, Madonna set the prototype for dance-pop female sex symbols. Kylie's post SAW material follows Madonna's career arch closer than anybody else's. So to pretend that the influence isn't there is a bit silly.

But there's always been something different about Madonna. Now, I'm not gonna act like she's the most profound, deep, important artist ever. But since the beginning, she's been about more than just the image, the sex appeal and the "pop" of it all. Her songs, videos and live performances are highly thematic. She's funny, irreverant, controversial, intelligent, influential...those elements just don't come across much in the other pop divas' work. Behind all the button pushing, the provocative visuals, there's a message and a meaning behind it. Sure, Kylie's cleavage cape and gold hot pants are iconic images at this point...but is there a point? If so, I still haven't figured it out. That's not to take anything away from the Kylies and Britneys and recently, the Janets. It's okay to have some mindless fun and just dance your cares away. Madonna still does that on occasion too. But in that way, it's unfair to the artists that have come since Madonna to expect them to live up to those kinds of standards. And it's unfair to Madonna to reduce her influence to being the forefather of the modern pop tart. She's tackled politics, religion, spirituality, sexuality and gender norms in a way that none of her followers could ever dare.

That said, I can appreciate Kylie, Dannii and even Britney to an extent. I don't listen to their music, but I've heard enough of it and quite like a few of their songs. I could probably even name nearly 50 Kylie songs that I kinda dig and that surprises me cuz I used to hate her. I think she's carved out a decent niche for herself and has a respectable body of work at this point. But she's no Madonna. wink

Madonna & Kylie both approach their music in very different ways. I would say that Madonna is far more involved in the production and writing process than Kylie, and I would choose to listen to a madonna album over a Kylie one any time. That said Kylie's released some great singles lately - Slow & I Believe In You are both outstanding, 2 songs Id have loved for madonna to have released, and yes they're better than anything since Music.

When you compare the two live, there isn't really any contest. Kylie puts on a nice, fun pop show, madonna puts on a fucking extravaganza. She pushes herself right to the edge physically to present her fans with the best audio & visual show, and there is far more invention and creativity in them.

Kylie is great, madonna is greater.

I agree with just about everything you said. From the very beginning,Madonna always had that "extra something" that makes her stand out from other dance music divas. She always had a purpose,a message,a point she had to make.Lyrically, she went deeper than Kylie and the others will ever go.Madonna is so much more than just image,a sexy smile and cool dance beats.

I really tried to get into this song. I played it like 30 times since it leaked but it still leaves me cold. It sounds a bit like a castoff from Gwen's L.A.M.B. - there's not much that's distinctive about it. Kylie has been doing this sort of sound for almost 4 years now, but for some reason, her music is a lot more fun than "Hung Up". Even the "rainbow" photoshoot that was posted above is something Kylie did years ago. I also heard that snippet of "I Love New York", and I liked that even less. Perhaps this will be the first Madonna album I don't buy. sad
