Yeah, I've gotta give you some kudos as well - though I think you meant "20 jazz funk greats", right? Unless that's some bootleg of which I'm unaware...

My fave TG album was always Heathen Earth - it was always the perfect soundtrack to our...erm...psychedelic explorations, I guess you'd call it...back when we used to do such things, of course...

I tweaked my list a touch recently...

1) Bob Dylan – Blonde On Blonde
2) John Cale – Paris 1919
3) Wire – Pink Flag
4) The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour
5) Julian Cope – Peggy Suicide
6) Love – Forever Changes
7) Rolling Stones – Exile On Main Street
8) Can – Tago Mago
9) My Bloody Valentine – Loveless
10) John Lennon - Plastic Ono Band
11) Grant McLennan – Horsebreaker Star
12) Go-Betweens - Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express
13) Gavin Bryars – Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet
14) Television – Marquee Moon
15) Gene Clark – No Other
16) Brian Eno – Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy
17) The Beatles - Rubber Soul
18) The Fall - Perverted By Language
19) The Teardrop Explodes – Kilimanjaro
20) Scott Walker – 4

I'd like to make room for the Fall's Peel Sessions boxed set that came out this year, but I don't want to bump either of the Fall records I already have here, and three Fall records in the top twenty might be a bit much.

Did I say that? If I did, I must have mangled my message pretty badly - I never really think of the Beatles in terms of complete albums. I just think of them as having this amazing body of work, this amorphous blob of perfect pop that I'll occasionally reach into and pull out a handfull of favourites to savour.

I recently did a list of 200 songs for the Acclaimed Music site (moonbeam's there, I know...), and I put 23 Beatles tracks on my list - but they don't really have albums that I love as complete, distinct entities except for rubber soul.

1. Michael Jackson – Off The Wall
2. John Lennon – Plastic Ono Band
3. Patti Smith – Horses
4. Nico – Chelsea Girls
5. Dio – Holy Diver
6. Megadeth – Rust in Peace
7. The Stooges – Stooges
8. Stone Temple Pilots – Purple
9. Anthrax – Among The Living
10. The Last Poets - Last Poets

I tried to find a place for Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow (1st album) just for my favorite song Man on The Silver Mountain.

I don't have Paris 1919, which is a perfect album, but I have at least 2 John Cale produced albums, and throw in Chelsea Girls which he played on.

He killed it on Marble Index though.

Any guy who can make room for 'off the wall' and 'the stooges' and 'holy diver' is tops in my book. I actually rented Dio's DVD last weekend - the one from his NY show from 2 or 3 years back...

that stp album just doesn't look at home on that list, though... wink

For some reason, I thought I remembered you saying that The Beatles were so above and beyond everyone else, that they almost weren't even mentioning in your favorite albums list cuz they'd have all of your top 5. But I could be way off there. Could be the wrong person. Could be the wrong artist. Could be that I dreamt it. lol

boxed That's a really good pop rock record boxed

The Dio Live concert to get is the 85 spectrum show which is out of print now. From the Last or Scraed Heart Tour. I rarely listen to Dio/Sab/or Rainbow anymore but That album has got to be in the top ten. Didn't know you were such a fan of Marquee Moon. What's your take on Patti Smith? Ever hear her live bootlegs with John Cale, and her boots with Television?

it's available now on Dvd edit.....

Oh, I have no business saying anything - I don't even think I've ever heard one of their songs. It just looks a little funny besides everything else on your list

Huge fan of Verlaine's solo work and Marquee Moon - I actually wore out two vinyl copies before I made the switch to CDs in the nineties.

I've never been too much of a Smith follower - I liked the punk part of her persona, but I was less fond of the hippie/poet elements. I certainly love Piss Factory, that's a great recording, and I acknowledge that Horses and Easter are ground-breaking, era-defining works. I've just never been quite that in love with them.

I've never heard any boots either, I'm afraid - I think she did some work with verlaine on a couple of her nineties recordings? I seem to recall her doing letterman at some point with verlaine on guitar in the late nineties...

I truly, honestly tried with Television and really wanted to love them.

I can understand that the guitars are absolutely godlike, but I've never been able to crack TV's voice.

I've definitely made comments to the effect that I believe the Beatles body of work towers over everything that's followed in their wake. That wasn't some kinda Patrick Duffy/Victoria Principal "it was all a dream" delusion on your part.

That I can almost guarantee was not me - this list is a slight variation of the one I've posted here and on other sites for about...errr - six months or so, I'd say. It's possible I might have done a list that predated this one - but I still doubt I would front-load it with Beatles albums, and I'm sure you wouldn't remember a post I'd done over half a year ago. smile

I've been told that I do. Quite affected by all the chemicals I've ingested though. lol

Actually, I think you left them out of your list like you did with this one, but qualified it by saying that it wasn't even worth including them cuz they'd be so dominant. But I'm probably thinking of someone else.

The Piss Factory/Hey Joe debut singles are right there with Nico's I'm Not Sayin' and The Last Mile (and I know you don't her luv her smile) but Patti's Piss Factory is some next level shit for sure. She's like Dylan meets Iggy to me.

I honestly thought I would see something like Blank Generation on your list before Marquee Moon. I never return to that album, it's seems drawn out to me. It is a definitive record though.
