it's like football it's doesn't matter how many tricks you can do with a ball off the pitch it matters what you do on the pitch

prince might play more instruments than mike but he can't take a single mic and murder it like mike

if prince had the same records and albumsales y'all be screaming your longs out PRINCE IS THE KING but he didn't so get over it

and to the mike jack fans stop acting like we live in some goddamn cocoon, michael jackson impact is far greater than prince's or elvis only y'all to scared to say it because of these fake allegations!!

You seem to be obsessed with "winning" and are thinking of music, which is a creative artform (and therefore cannot be compared to a sport like football) as if it is some sort of competition. Sounds like you need some self-realization and some growing up to do.

If it is so obvious that Michael is the king and everyone knows it, why do you feel the need to shout it so loud? Do you have some insecurity issues? Do you feel the need to justify yourself for being an MJ fan? If so, why?

Hate to break it to you, but in obviously subjective terms, I'm probably a "bigger" fan of Michael Jackson than you are. I have enlarged photos from the Dangerous tour on my wall, as well as a neon blue "Moonwalker" sign. I went to the HIStory tour and it was probably one of the best days of my life. I have an original 1969 7" vinyl of "I Want You Back" and a shitload of stuff that you probably don't even know exists.

Yet, I see absolutely no reason to start arguments proclaiming whether Prince or MJ is better. I'm a massive Prince fan as well, and have Prince posters on my walls as well. I have paintings of Tupac Shakur on my walls. I'm an obsessive Nirvana fan as well.

Do I feel the need to dispute whether Tupac or Kurt Cobain were a "better" artist than Prince or MJ? I could easily start an intelligent discussion on the relevance of Tupac and Kurt's influence on the 90's generations VS MJ and Prince's influence on the 80's generation, but I would never be as immature and one-track minded to start a frankly ridiculous thread stating my opinions as fact, like this one does. Reason being, I'm comfortable with my level of respect for all these artists and don't feel the need to justify myself.

Respect and admiration/appreciation of musical artists is all subjective, and to use a cliche, opinions are like assholes, everybody has one. So why are you whoring your opinion round as if it's the only one that matters?

The only person who seems to care about your facts is you.

You keep saying that MJ has the biggest influence. Right, nobody is disputing that. In fact I agree with you, if you are talking about figures.

But quite frankly, what I care about is the influence that an artist has on intelligent, radical, open-minded, free-thinking people. And I'm sorry, but that award goes to Prince, it's clearly obvious from the fact that 99% of the topics on this board are mature and intelligent conversation, whereas you can't move on a MJ forum without tripping over thousands of pubescent girls talking about how hot Mike is, using colorful smilies, and WrItiNG liKE thIS!!!!!

Nobody cares about the points you are trying to prove. Be comfortable with your opinions and stop trying to establish something entirely subjective as "fact".

Exactly! Music is an art form, not a competitive sport. And in another post above there is ten reasons why all respect Prince more. Just get over it!... i couldn't give a hit weather Prince sold 600,000,00 Albums or just 60!! All that matters to us is that we enjoy the music and respect Prince as a legend.

Now piss off and take your MJ preaching somewhere else!

I am an MJ fan, i have all his albums... inclusing the ultimate collection. But i like MJ because of his genius and his talent. Not because of his success! confused

If you want to talk King of Pop I think Paul McCartney has a better shot at that title then MJ.

McCartney has had more hit singles.
Combine The Beatles singles with McCartneys singles & no one comes close.

His influence is much greater on pop music
& has covered a larger period of time.
The Beatles had hits before MJ even was in a recording studio.
The Beatles were a large part of the social upheavel in the 60's.

McCartneys music is covered by more artists.
McCartneys Yesterday is the most covered song in pop history.

MJ is a huge pop star but he is not The Pop Star
unless that title is based on one monster selling album.

The funniest thing is... Prince doesn't give a shit weather we name him "king"... lol Prince is a musician at heart. that is all.

MJ fans always blab about "record sales" "success" "king" ... Prince don't give a shit about any of that stuff. The title "king of pop" is far too flimsy and tacky for someone like Prince.

Let MJ have his crown, and we will have the sounds.

Emotion, Power, and sheer enjoyment beat record sales ANY day! cool

There is no King. Everyone has different tastes and perspectives. For one person, the greatest thing is music might be Michael, for another it will be Captain Beefheart. Sales are not a sign of quality. Sales are often a sign of what is being marketed well and what panders to the narrow tastes of the mass media.

This thread is pointless

The thing about MJ - he's got his stall laid out for everyone to see, you pick up an MJ best of, or one of his biggest LPs, and you know what you're getting because his best stuff, was his commercial stuff, the singles. Not much more to say really.

With Prince, his store's a little more confusingly laid out - The store front looks nice enough, great in fact, if a little wierd and fruity in places. But you get in, and it's not a store, it's a f*cking MALL!! You can be in there all day and never even scratch the surface, and there's tons of these little niche stores in the mall that sell these exiqusite trinkets, and these grandious amazing Persian rugs and funky stuff.

There's some burger stalls in there, you think huh, but you soon walk past them, you find them in everyone's stores.

Then you wonder, "HEY! If there are all these great stores in these nooks and crannies inside the mall, why don't they put them on the storefront so everyone knows they're here?"

Then you realise, if everyone knew they were here, they probably wouldn't be so quaint and special. cool

Once you know where that mall is, there's not much reason to shop at MJ's little Mom and Pop stale.

Nicely said. No doubt, MJ is an important artist with unbelievable record sales. His impact is unquestionable. But there is nothing in his catlogue that inspires and moves me the way Prince music does. And I'm talking all of Prince's music. Prince's diverse topics and creativitiy keeps him relevant - many artists foresake that for record sales. I'm glad to see that the real KING did and does not stop taking risks. Like many of us, we all have different personality types at different times. Hell it may change from day to day. Prince's music reflects that and real lovers of music appreciate the fact that one artist gives you the variety (and done extremely well I might add) that usually you have to find by pruchasing several albums across several music categories. That is why Prince will always be relevant and also why his record sales will never compare to Mike's. But that is a good thing.

Stevie Wonder is King. He was declared the king in 1973 by the press and public. Michael declared himself, like a dick-tator or something. Prince is just that, the prince. Stevie, the king. Michael, well...the duke.

How can an artist like Prince that owns mostly all of his own work be questioned for his creativity in this useless comparingblaba anyway ? To each artists it's creativity and to each fan's it's own taste . Outplaying is tiresome .

Paul McCartney felt disrespected not to be able to buy the rights for his own and other Beatle-members work . I know that these kinda things are no stranger in the record-business ( like Prince his copyright-troubles in the past ) , but to experience that action from a musical-collague ?. MJ might have been a sharp business-man , but this felt like a step on somebody's heart .

What's the point anyway to own other's people's creative copyright ? Showing off to be the richest person who can do that , while having historised a milepole in music by yourself already ? ..... If there's a goal to do something with it ( like distributing un-released material ) , it would be worth it . Still , mainly owning copyright and sit on it doesn't impress me so much .

there was a time when blk artists were owned by whites

just like paul owns billie holiday and a lot of other blk artists

michael jackson returned the favour he took a white platform and became king

he even gave little richards rights back
spank
that's why michael jackson is so hated he fkked elvis daughter on top of that

and to the people who say he declared himself king show me the ceremony of elvis being crowned!!! where is it???

Then why still proving your point in your opening-post of this thread , that MJ owns copyrights , which is irrelevant to creativity ?

Even though also Paul has the Billy Holiday-files , it says nothing to me . What is he going to do with it ? Merely sit on it or do something worthy with it . like release rare recordings of her ?

elvis has 200 albums
michael jackson has 9 solo and 4 greatest hits albums

so michael jackson is still the king if mike had 200 albums his albums sales would somewhere around the 16 billion

and prince is much better than elvis

tell your husband that

i know some Micheal Jacson fans that are very rabbid, but still want 2 forget that one crappy album. what was it ? oh yeah. blood on the dancefloor. what did that sell 50,000 copies ? most people have never even heard of it. please don't get me twisted. i love mike and all, but after bad, maybe His-story, his sales began 2 blow. and that was waaaaay back in '92? over a decade ago, none the less. and i'm also sad 2 say his moves ain't as crisp as they used 2 be. not takin sides, just stating facts.
