Now, dear King of Music,

we are very very sorry to have choosen the wrong idol who only happens to be a prince. We thank you a lot for given us the real insight how things really are. You have been a real eye-opener for us. Problably, we were al blinded by the the Purple Light that shined upon us. We were poisoned by the Purple Rain. Once again, we Are sorry.

1st of all let me say this:

I have no need to defend my musical preferences. I think taste in music is like the taste in your mouth-it does not have to be something that you use to identify yourself.

Meaning, if you like apple pie that's cool-I don't. I like French Silk.

-You don't need to claim how much you love apple pie for me to be cool with it.
(Just understand that your taste and my tastes are different.)

I would like to add i am the same boat as you with being a fan of both artist and the statements you made are exactly how i feel about why at times i prefer Prince, the main reason is that he makes more interesting music. it was a good read by the way cool

Although you can bet your Ass everytime i do hear an MJ song i get excited and want to dance. I think in some cases my HEAD and ears love PRinces music but my heart and body loves MJ music, its a weird way to describe it, but thats my thoughts.

oh this thread sucks.....

I'll say this. Looking at teenagers today.....My daughter loved "Call my Name" and plays adore over and over. Prince is still viable and relevant. To my daughter, Mj is a weird man who likes little boys and wears wigs and lipstick.

MJ isn't the influence he used to be. We have another generation who only thinks of MJ as a man who used to be good (they've heard) but turned weird. Sometimes you can kill your own legacy.

We can never take away MJs accomplishments. He did impact the industry but I think Prince has a different impact on musicianship and the way they now use the internet to distribute music. Prince seems to still look forward and Michael wants you to still look at his shiny glove and his great spins.

No one can be "king." Suffice it to say that Michael Jackson is a wonderful and talented singer, and unparalleled showman, who has made music that has touched the lives of countless people. He stands on his own merits without comparison to Prince, Elvis, or anyone else.

While I personally think Prince is a superior artist, there are many artists I'd say that about. But Prince can't be Michael Jackson. Only MJ can be MJ. And that, my friends, is enough.

Hi, I'm Michael Jackson, the most selective pedophile in the world.

I just love that part - when you become MJ & write the post as if you are MJ.
"Hi - I'm Michael Jackson"
Thats hilarious.
Thats inspired.
Do you think you could write a post as Latoya??

Prince fans can argue and argue this over and over, but the reality is that worlwide (i.e. outside the America bubble most people on this site r stuck in) Michael Jackson is massive.

When they tore down the statue of Saddam Hussein in Baghdad, kids were dancing in the street and they told the media that day that they were happy because now they could listen to MJ. That my friends, says it all.

You dont see little African kids dancing around the streets to Musicology and you can forget about Purple Rain. PR wasnt even a hit in the UK.

Again im not sayin that this makes either Prince or MJ the better of the two, but realistically, the facts speak for themselves. MJ is a cultural icon who will be remembered throughout the world. Prince will always remain a great musician and the Americans will salute him.

elvis has 200 albums
michael jackson has 9 solo and 4 greatest hits albums

so michael jackson is still the king if mike had 200 albums his albums sales would somewhere around the 16 billion

and prince is much better than elvis

The first time I read this I laughed. But the desperation coming from TKOM is just sad. No one disputes that MJ comes out on top in terms of record sales and worldwide popularity, but just look at these two men now. Prince took the high road and MJ took the low road and it shows. MJ has become a walking freak show. Rarely is he talked about for his music, since he doesn't make that much anyway. It's for child molestation, and baby dangling, and showing up with babies from who knows where, and his disturbing looks, and his choice of sleepwear, and on and on and on.
When Prince landed back on the mainstream media radar last year, it was for his Grammy performance, his sold out shows, his extraordinary musicianship, not his private life.
Being a Raiders fan, I understand desperation. But I'm able to say they suck and move on. I'm still a fan, but I don't try to convince others of their greatness now, because they aren't great right now. For a while, at the beginning of each season I used to say, "This year, the Raiders are going to the Super Bowl". I stopped saying that, for now, cause there's postive thinking and, well, there's just plain retarded. TKOM comes off as the latter.

You are correct Funky...MJ is massive around the world; arguably, he's the biggest musical act of the past 30 years...But I don't believe anyone is arguing that MJ is not a bigger icon than Prince (If they are, they should be banished from the org forever to listen to Latoya Jackson's entire catalogue until their ears bleed...) I think what the more level headed Prince fans are attempting to say is that when it comes to comparing certain artists, massive notiriety is at times moot...

The truth about MJ is he's not as one dimensional as some people on this site constantly tout him as. And neither is he the end all to be all artist of the century...The truth is MJ is the most iconic artist of the '80s era who damn near entirely destroyed his peerless legacy through a series of horrfic decisions, personally and professionally...While kids in Cambodia, Iraq, India and abroad still look at this man as a mythic figure (To be honest, MJ was really a deity during his '80s prime; I don't think we will ever see the type of wild sensation this man induced...), he will be equally known for his more darker tabloid fuck ups that have dogged him for over decade...This matters, unfortuantely....And this is coming from someone that grew up and loves MJ's music...

As for Prince, the man may not approach the worldwide popularity of MJ, but he's no folk hero...He commands a loyal following overseas and across the globe and has nothing to be ashamed of...MJ and Prince will always be compared to one another because, let's face it, they were peers...These guys deserve their lofty musical standings...But again, it's all about legacy...That's what really matters...And when it comes down to it, that's why Prince edges MJ...20 years from now Michael Jackson will be looked at as one of the true giants of music who also had one of the biggest falls in pop culture history...And that's a true tragedy because with his talent and stage genius MJ deserved better...

I think its about legacy. I really think most of us look back at Michael's past to deem he's great and not what he could do still. Its been awhile that Michael has really had an impact on MUSIC. Most Prince fans are MJ fans on some level but I think Prince (like Madonna) are focusing on their music and not what "made" them famous in the 80's. How silly would it be if Prince still was wearing his purple treach coat and Madonna still was doing the same thing of 1984.

I just think Mj is stuck. And its a little shaky that ppl call MJ the "king of pop" when he named himself that. I don't think there is a current "king" of anything.

To sum up a lot of what has been said I think prince is a better artist and musician.Mike is the best at what he does and that is the art of being a plastic pop star(literally).Prince on the otherhand has more depth as an artist and primarily A MUSICIAN.Prince in a lot of ways continues the legacy of one james Brown but even then Prince Rogers Nelson has one advantage over both MJ and James Brown and thats DIGNITY.Prince will always command respect from me and that doesnt come easy.

damnnnnn so here is where that thread went i couldn't find it

i see people still come with the lame kiddie fidler jokes i don't give a bleep i won't diss prince

it's funny how people always doubt michael jackson songwriting skills *sighs* wel what can i say at least he writes elvis didn't but i don't hear shit about that!!

i won't deny that prince is better with instruments than mike that's just a fact he simply is, but if michael jackson started 20 jrs ago with training lessons for them 40 instruments prince plays he would have been equal as good as prince

cause prince isn't better than hendrix on guitar etc but he is a complete artist

but that's not talent that's something you learn

lets say prince knows 40 lings and he sang the song GOLD in 40 languages would those versions be better than the original?? or simply handy for the people who don't know english??

i rather have the orginal

michael jackson thinks why drive if you can be driven( why play when other people can do it)

michael jackson want's to be remembered like da vinci and charlie chaplin and say what you wanna say and joke as much as you want he allready secured that

if you come to africa people still bounce on his songs

play any of his songs in a club and the dancefloor will be packed fo sho!

and what's the b.s about mike's succes?? 50 jrs ago black artists weren't even aloud to get in front of the bus black artist weren't aloud to get in them fancy hotels or play in big stadiums ask little richard, michael jackson and his brothers would get beerbottles thrown at their face when they performed in the south for just a fraction that artist get paid today

99% out there was inspired by michael jackson only they won't admit IT kinda pathetic if you ask me

i like prince because he when mike was down still called him a genius and didn't judge mike like many others on this site and in entertainment do

that's a man not a coward

i don't think he referred to him on life 'o' party but even then i don't care mike took shots at him in INVINCIBLE he says he'll treat you well, he can't treat you like me And he's buying diamonds and pearls, he can't do it like me

but that's just two artists having fun at what they do

but jermaine jackson was right they don't wanna give credit to mike

example's

thriller the biggest selling album of all time 60 million to date the album that destroyed the mtv-racist barrier the album that recieved 8 grammy's the album that started the video-phenomena is being in the rolling stone mag put on the #20 spot<-----WHAT A FKKING B.S and they have like 4 beatles albums in top 20 what's that?? IT'S JUST PLAIN RACISME!!!

thriller sold in usa 32 million copies accorrding to soundscan but the RIAA still put him on the nr 2 spot because they won't count the special editions but they have no problem counting elvis's special editions!!

it's because he was born black if it was donny osmond that came with michael jackson music all these racist would throw elvis away and take him as the king but it wasn't donny it was mike

look at the all time greatest list look at the spots mike and prince are getting

they just can't take it mike and prince are superior than all these other artists

y'all should be lucky that prince doesn't have a racist elite after him!!
