I hear ya (I prefer them as hippies), but A Hard Days Night is about as classic as it gets. Also, it's the closest thing you get to a John Lennon solo record until 1970. With the Beatles is great, too, and Help has some songs that surpass many of the songs on their later records. Well then... with those descriptions I might have to dig into those couple albums. For that era of stuff I am only aware of the tracks that appeared on the Red album: What do you think of Beatles For Sale, andyman91?

I've always liked them, but wasn't familiar with much of their work. I broke in "Forty Licks" a few weeks before the show and that's what made me a fan. The show was just the icing on the cake.

But that would mean no Help, no The Night Before, no I’ll Follow the Sun, no Ticket to Ride. You could say the Beatles weren’t as sophisticated prior to Rubber Soul, but I don’t think you could say they were a poorer band, because rock music doesn’t get any better than the songs mentioned above, I think.

The album and the movie: A Hard Day's Night I Should Have Known Better If I Feel (the sweetest song on that album) And I Love Her Can't Buy Me Love Any Time at All (great foot stompin' rock n roll song!) Things We Said Today (I'm a Zombies fan, and this could easily have been one of their tunes. I love it, but that quick fade out at the end always cut it too short!) All of those are great pop/rock songs. CinisterCee said: I don't spin any Beatles albums recorded before Rubber Soul.
Maybe give this Hard Day's Night a try and see what you think.

The White Album pretty much made me think of music in a different way.. it open my eye's so to speak.. and to this day, to me, it still holds as the greatest double album.

the beatles Yess, they were great but not in the early years. They were getting great when Lennon was in his "Dylan" period, and was writing better lyrics. So from the Revolver- Rubbersoul Lp,till the end they were great.

Yes I agree, the Beatles were brilliant, no one could touch them in their haydays!
I practically grew up listening to magical Mystery Tour and Sgt peppers. So those two I like best! "Time is a train, makes the future the past"

Yep. I've been listening to them quite a lot again this year.
Best band ever. | |

One thing I love about the Beatles was their ability to make songs that tied together seamingly incompatible melodies or passages, quite unlike what Prog bands did with extended suites or what funk bands would do with gradually developing grooves, Both John and Paul could seamlessly graft several disparite melodies into a song and make it work e.g. Happiness Is A Warm Gun, You Never Give Me Your Money , A Day In the Life [Edited 10/14/05 2:18am]

From beginning to end they were incredible. Their influence and talent is truly mindblowing. But on a side note, one was shot and killed and one was stabbed, a horrible flip side to fame and fandom.

One of my very favorite songs is "I'm so tired". Just great, like so many other songs they did.
I just recently started listening to them, and still have a whole lot to discover. BTW, what would you say? Revolution (single) or Revolution #1?

Yes, they were indeed brilliant. Sometimes I am amazed when I listen to their music. It's so much more than most people think. Absolutely brilliant work!

btw,The Rolling Stones are great, but their music doesn't compare to the Beatles at all.Very few bands (or artists) can top The Beatles' amazing body of work.
