what bands would you recommend to a NIN fan?

hey,

I've been listening a lot to NIN the past week, then moved on to MM for a couple of days,...and then nothing. In the whole genre of indrustrial rock those are the two bands I know. So can anyone recommend some bands a NIN fan would like?

thx
Kev1n

Some of the bands bubbling right under the surface before NIN got big were Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Cabaret Voltaire and KMFDM. There are countless others though. Those were just some of the more popular and poppy ones.

I'm not the biggest fan of NIN, although I used to be. But I'm a huge fan of many of the artists Trent sites as his biggest influences - early Cure, early Prince, Berlin-era Bowie, Joy Division. That's pretty much half of my top 10 favorite artists that he draws inspiration from. If you're not familiar with some of that stuff, I'd definitely check it out. biggrin

I wouldn't recommend kev1n to listen to any of my own bands, because if he's a pussy enough to like NIN they'd be too hardcore for him.

Just kidding. wink smile

kev1n, You will probably like the bands mentioned above, but I can mention some others from the mainstream industrial scene that you might like:

- Dismantled (the last two albums sound a LOT like NIN)
- Apoptygma Berzerk (the new album is a rock record, the earlier records were straight EBM/techno records, Stephan Groth is arguably the best pop-tunesmith of the lighter end of industrial music)
- Foetus (Forget about Manson, get instead "Thaw" by Foetus[Foetus Interruptus])
- Project Pitchfork (A Skinny Puppish EBM band, some great club singles, the EBM "growl" vocal sound is something that folks usually have to get used to before being able to appreciate the music)
- Zeromancer (I won't recommend it, but some folks seem to like it, and it's still industrial rock. Try Urself)
- Pigface (a classic industrial rock band, some like it, I don't)
- Pitchshifter (see above)

Of the names mentioned in this thread by myself and others I can say I personally genuinely enjoy the music of Ministry, Apoptygma Berzerk and Foetus. But tastes may vary.

Einstuerzende Neubauten's "1/2 Mensch" makes NIN look and sound like pansies in a tornado. Trout Razor stole EN's whole schtick and co-opted for the MTV crowd. Neubauten were the real deal.
