Are you a poser in a Tee Shirt?

I'm sure we've all seen someone wearing a concert tee shirt of a singer or group that doesn't fit their personality or music taste, so you or I may make the conclusion that this person doesn't know anything about that band, they're a poser. What group or singer has the most popular tee shirt out that is nothing more than a fashion statement?

Examples: AC/DC - Back In Black, The Beatles, The Ramones, Led Zeppelin etc... though you're not limited to the choices given.

I have to say it really does piss me off when people wear those shirts when they clearly know fuck all about the band. In the UK The Ramones T shirts are the most popular. You see preppy/towny type people wearing them and they've probably never heard a Ramones song. I know some people will say not to take it all so seriously but it gets beneath my skin. If only The Ramones had so many fans. Motorhead are another band who are very popular in the T Shirt stakes.

It's one thing to be a fan of the group whose tee shirt you're wearing, you can wear with it pride. All I ask is that you at least know five songs from the singer or group, know at least two member's name in a band and own one album before you bust out in your Led Zeppelin Icarus shirt, is that too much?

I'm a poser sort of, I don't know much about Roxy Music, I don't have an album by them but I like their album covers alot, so much so that one's my avie.

<<<<<---- , but at least I'm telling you that upfront.

H&M stores have started stocking The Clash 'London Calling' album cover prints on T-Shirts. I have NO idea why. Top Shop even do Bob Marley ones now, and Top Shop is mainly aimed at teenage girls.

Holly Valance is a huge culprit of this too wearing that damn Ramones tee in her video and then The Clash/AC/DC ones etc. for further performances.

It really pisses me off. I have loads of T-Shirts with artists and bands on them, but only ones I like. If HMV or a high street store only stocks 20 or so common ones then get online and find one or make one for the person you like, it's not hard.

Stateside, there's a chain of mall shops called Hot Topic that is your one stop place for all poser tees and accessories, basically all things that are from recent pop fad phenomenon. By the time it reaches this store, it's completely out of style and makes the buyer of such clothing look like a dork.

Iron Maiden
Dio
Ozzy
Black Sabbath
Metallica
Megadeath
Mötley Crüe

...have the market cornered on this kind of thing.

I saw this silly 16 year old girl trying to be dressed upand wearing the same CBGB Tshirt!! I was horrified! I mean, Im not trying to defend her but at least that bint Ashley Simpson pretends shes in the business, this was just some chav off the street!!

I firmly beleive that you shouldnt wear a t shirt if you dont know what it means. Youre just opening yourself up to ridicule! And taking cred away from the people whove been wearing these shirts for years.

pissed We've talked about this very thing on here before. nod It's a pet peeve of mine actually. Of course, I could wear any of those shirts you mentioned and definitely not be a poser, because they happen to be my favorite bands anyway. (with the exception of the Ramones I guess. I like them, they're just not a favorite though)

And a Zeppelin shirt is sacred ground for me. worship You better damn well be a fan if you're going to wear them. biggrin Because I WILL quiz people on the band if I see them wearing a Zeppelin shirt. nod

lol

I actually have a pretty big collection of rock t-shirts, but that's because I design my own so they're one-of-a-kind. nod I would never wear one of a band I didn't really love.

I would quiz them on why theyre wearing it too!! Its so annoying when they say something like "because it looks cool". I like to think in reply, "well, the fact that thats why youre wearing it makes you categorically uncool!"

hey hey HEY!! I'm one of those posers!! Leave us alone! So the fuck WHAT if i don't know shit about the band. Kiss my black ass. If the shirt is cute, and it's an x-small, best believe i'm buying that shit. I have a sleeveless Def Leopard shirt, an AC/DC camouflage shirt, my Purple Rain shirt, 2 Rolling Stones shirts, and a Pink Floyd shirt, and everytime i wear them, somebody always gives me shit. Damn. It's fucking fashion. You'll live. rolleyes Why don't we start a thread about all those damn puerto ricans and white boys who wear baggy clothes and shit. Damn.

no no no...Hot Topic is THE shit. Thank God for it. In a world where your "blackness" is often associated with a fitted cap and 10 shirts and 52 waist jeans, i GLADLY prance my ass into a Hot Topic and buy me some rock tees. I'll be damned if i'm gonna look like anybody around here.
