Ah Rolling Stone.
It's pure genius over there I tell you. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

I think most mags are playing catch-up for not giving his debut 5 stars, which I think College Dropout deserves.

CinCee, I greatly respect your hip-hop knowledge. However comma. College Dropout isn't on the level of Madvillainy, Speakerboxxx/TLB, or for that matter, The Black Album. It's a very good album, probably a classic, definitely not an all-time great. To say College Dropout deserves 5 stars from Rolling Stone puts it on a level of Nation of Millions, 3 Feet High, Low End Theory, Illmatic et al, and it ain't there. Late Registration is simply a College Dropout remix album. Love Kanye, like the album, but that's the truth. Kanye is a great producer and a more than capable MC with a good, sometimes great, message. I agree that is totally ridiculous. I like the album, a solid 3 and a half stars, but no classic.

I kinda liked Kanye when he first came out. The Chipmonk-style vocal samples annoyed the shit out of me, but he was different, so I listened. His songs really grew on me. And then he just started coming across as a prick. All of his "I deserve to win everything" beef with anyone who won an award that he was up for. It just came across as childish. I might have expected shit like that from other people, but he always came across as being better than that. And, I suppose, he wasn't.
It's a jungle out there.

yeah i also noticed on johnathan ross, that when ross started trying to talk to him seriously about american politics, he seemed to go blank and not know what to say....!
